  1. Cheers for the offer bro but I\'m in wellington, sorry I should\'ve specified. Thanks though!
  2. I can\'t select reverse anymore without holding the shifter in firmly. Worked fine this morning, went into town for a warrant and afterwards it started popping out of reverse. Went back to ask the shop if they had done anything but they only looked at the warrant so I suspect it\'s just had it. Anyone know what it could be?. Has anyone had this issue before? I\'m gonna have to pay someone to split the box and have a look, how much should I expect to pay for this does anyone know?
  3. Arg another problem with my beloved subie.....no matter how much love she gets theres still something else. Anyway, I\'ve got an oil leak(not sure where it\'s coming from but it\'s ending up on the passenger side right on the exhaust) which I think may be from the the rear of the engine, and a steering rack boot that has S**t itself in half. Has anyone had to do these before and if so what were you charged?. I\'m pretty strapped for cash and can\'t do it myself. Last time I tried to fix something mechanically it didn\'t end well :\'( Any help would be great.
  4. Got a nasty suprise today....a bolt on the lower end of the tail housing in my legacy have spun itself off ( must have been cross threaded and blown off) but she's leaking fluid now and I'm searching around for a mechanic that can rethread the hole and replace the bolt...Anyone around here know anyone in wellington that can get it done asap?.
  5. I changed my diff over in my BH5 leggy, what a bitch of a job but got it all sorted, but celebrated too soon, got no reverse lights but that's fixed once the swtich gets replaced, but I've got a small leak from somewhere and I can't find it. Does anyone know a good mechanic that can give it a once over? I don't have the gear here to do a full rip apart and reseal I fixed it in taranaki but now I'm back in wellys. Cheers guys
  6. What problem does yours have trent? I think i've found the problem with the lights. But now I've discovered a leak somewhere. ARG! anyone know of any handy tricks to find them and kill them quick? Or is it a pull apart reseal job?
  7. Awesome write up man. wicked. I used this to help me change my diff over in my leggy, although now I don't have reversing lights. Anyone know why that would be? please don't tell me I have to start again lol, took me 4 go's and alot of swearing just to get it running again
  8. Yeah same ratio. The age was a concern as well but all info lead to older models being very strong, I gave it a crack so could be an expensive lesson but only one way to find out . Next option will be to probably try and track down a BH-5 phase 2 centre diff and put the original housing back in etc just to be safe. There seems to be a lot of mixed pros and cons with phase 2. The WRX diffs don't sound like they bind up as regularly as BH-5 diffs. I don't know whether a WRX phase 2 could be interchanged without swapping the housing as well, I've spent quite a bit of time looking for info, maybe I'm using the wrong search questions.
  9. Had a crack at changing over my centre diff in my 2002 Legacy wagon on sat......didn't go as planned. :'( Followed all the guidelines and brought a older model with the same rear housing, took out the old one and saw a lot of burn damage around the centre diff, so was a relief to get it out. Took off the housing and began trying to fit on the 2nd hand on, its from a 93 rs box. So started struggling to get it on, had a heap of issues getting the shifter in place. the shifter was completely different, this worried me at first but as it looked like it was a little bit smaller than the original. But eventually I got it on, and before I tightened all the bolts and what not I used a punch to select gears and all was looking awesome. I could select gears when I reassembled using the shifter(although it felt very loose) so I continued tightening up the bolts and brackets and everything else. Filled it back up with about 3.5ltrs of oil, selected all the gears for about 5 minutes to get the oil through it and then decided it was time to take it for a drive. Just went on a short drive, it ran mint as. Got all the gears, felt great no probs at all. But........then next day, started it up to take it on a proper test drive and got about 25kms from home, selected 5th gear and carried on to 100KM and after about 7 minutes of driving at 100kms I went to change down to forth and it wouldn't budge. I still can't get it out of 5th, and I pretty sure I've maybe put the selector in the wrong gate or maybe one of the gates weren't in the right place upon assembly. If I gently release the clutch it sounds like trans is skipping, so I hope I haven't blown the box. It was a massive mission so I apoligise for the lack of exact info but does anyone have any ideas on what could have gone wrong and where I can fix it. I'm keen as to get it right, I figure I've had a go so there's nothing wrong with hammering it again. I find it a bit odd that I found all the gears and then it got stuck. I am concerned maybe it's ceased up or something but until I can afford to take it apart again I'm just going to try and get as much info as possible. So if anyone's got any gems they are willing to pass on it wont go to waste.
  10. I need help asap. I got a replacement centre diff and rear housing from someone on the forum, and I have a feeling he's sent me a automatic rather than a manual. I'm having massive issues putting the selector back in and I can't even use the old one. Please help..
  11. Hey fullas. I've got a mate that needs a seat belt for his forester, anyone wanting to sell one off?
  12. will that same set up fit in a BH5 Legacy? If so yeah man that would be awesome. Do you know of anyone trying to flick off their tranny set up? Cheers man, great help
  13. Awesome thread man. I'm gonna give it a try with my BH5 wagon. the diff is shot to bits. bit hard to find though. Do you by any chance know the transmission number of the gearbox you used?
  14. Hey guys. My beloved 2002 Legacy has got torque bind. I still can't figure out why all the BH5 diffs are S*&%^, but anyway, looking to put in another older model, heard something about a GC8 sti tranny set up using the centre housing and the rear housing etc, but does any one know any solid information on what diffs would fit into a 2002 Legacy without having to change too much around. All i'm really needing to get in is a new VC (which is so hard to find) but I'm not too confident on what set up to use. Anyone got any tips apart from buying new and getting a mechanic?. Kinda wanna give this a crack myself, save as much as I can. Cheers fullas
  15. Hi there fullas. Does anyone know where I can find a viscous coupler for my Legacy?. She's started binding up, and done all the checks and to my horror the VC is rooted. I can't find one anywhere, I've asked everywhere in Wellington that's on the web, all saying I would have to replace the entire centre diff. Heaps of people have told me that just replacing the VC will be enough to fix it, but I can't *&%$( find one. Can anyone help me rescue my legacy from a horrible slow death please??. Cheers people.
