  1. What\'s wrong with thrashing it then? 1500 or 15000 it should be bedded in and ready to go I would have thought? There are a lot of websites that say you should go hard from day 1... It\'s subaru owners manual that has the change at 12k, that\'s new for 2012 as previously there was a change around 5k or so. I got it brand new and followed the manual.
  2. Well, I bought a service plan, but the first oil change is 12k or a year, and I didnt want to wait that long. I figure as long as I use a subaru filter ill be fine. I dont even want to think what a oil and filter change would cost at the dealer. Every time I take it there they put a bottle of "fuel treatment" in the tank and charge me $25 plus GST.... Cheers
  3. Every track day? Wow, that adds up! 130 for the day, 120 for gas, at least 200 worth of rubber, and now 100 for oil and filter! Lucky its all separate items I can hide on the credit card..... Thanks
  4. Sorry, a noob question. I just changed the oil and filter myself (for the first time ever actually ) at 5000k/6 months in my 2012 STI. It got babied for 1600k, but thrashed since then, including 2 track days. The oil that came out was deep black and tarry. I have no idea how it should look, but I thought it should be least a little like the stuff I was putting in. Is it normal for it to be like that after 5000k? Should I change it more often, or is it just because its the first ever change? Thanks Ivan Oh, and Itried to search this, could not find anything, apologies if this has been asked before.
  5. Can i ask why small wheels are better? Doesnt that men a larger profile sidewall and more flex? Thanks
  6. Hi I am going to pick up a set of wheels for my \'12 STI for the track. It comes with the standard 18 BBS wheels with 225/40 18 SP600 dunlops. I could either keep the current wheels and put on somthing more track orientated this tyre size (RE55s or AD08\'s) or just buy a new wheel tyre combo for the track. If so should i stick to 18 or go 19? Same width? Do many people run 19\'s on the street and are they rough riding? Thanks
  7. I cant afford to be caught out telling porkies as it would affect my job, so it doesnt matter if anyone reads this as I\'d be open with what I was doing. As I said, they have not said they wont cover it, just that it is not clear clear whether they would or not for play days. Thanks
  8. I confess I\'d be disappointed if my stock sti broke driving 8 laps around Hampton at my best speed. As pointed out above, it\'s not too different to a speed run early up the Kaimai\'s in terms of stress. Anyway, it\'s just a theoretical concern at the moment, if it breaks ill ask the question of Winger. I\'d probably take the Mintex 1166\'s off and put the stock pads back on though! Thanks for the input.
  9. It\'s a bit complicated as he subaru warranty specifically excluded racing, timed laps, hill climbing and \'similar events\' . My days were just play days with a driver trainer for some runs, which why it is grey apparently. Thanks for thoughts so far.
  10. Hi My 2012 sti has done 5000 km and two awesome fun track days at hampton downs. When I bought it the guy said that I was covered under warranty for these. At the track however there was a consistent view I had voided the warranty, and beware seizing with the crap factory ecu map, or oil issues due to the nature of the circuit. I rang the salesman back and he talked to the service guys who said it was a \'grey area\' and on a \'case by case\' basis. If anyone else has been declined for his sort if usage then I might as well get a real tune or go for some engine mods as I will probably be declined too. Otherwise I\'ll hang in stock for a couple of years. Anyone claimed on their warranty after tracking their wrx? Thanks
