  1. Fair point but even a high kms one that looks in average condition, you can't import for less than $40k. Hence drives local pricing up as the cars are already here. Whether people are getting value or not these cars are a throw back to the good old JDM import days. Which is why people are wanting them and prepared to pay decent dollars for them globally. I mean different kettle of fish but who thought a 22B would be worth 450k USD!!!!! You could arguably say thats not good value comoared to what that sort of money can buy, as underneath the wide body they are more or less just a V4 STI with 2.2l engine. So good value or not doesn't really come into the debate.
  2. Just threw the rs comment for giggles. The Focus RS is definitely a nice car. I would own one.
  3. Unfortunately or fortunately they aren't dreamers, its just a fact. These cars are now asking this money. In Australia a car like Nirans would be worth over 100k. If anything NZ is behind the times with values. Try importing a tidy one for less than 80k landed and on the road. No one wants to own a Ford and also the focus doesn't have the JDM factor.
  4. Out of interest what turbo was it that had the IWG75? Did it make a decent difference with boost control? They make a IWG75 specifically for the VF39, VF48 single scroll turbos, so wondering if one of those would bolt straight to a VF22 provided the Comp housings have the mounting bolts on the same spot.
  5. Hey there, Has anyone fitted a turbosmart wastegate actuator to a VF22 or other single scroll VF turbo? If so what kit did you use? And is it even worth doing? Cheers
  6. Yes too much black plastic at the back, and around the car in general. The engine bay is interesting. Not sure that I am a huge fan of having an oil filter as one of the first things to see in the engine bay. I can see one of the first mods for people being and oil filter with the STI logo on the top/bottom of it. Look forward to the STI
  7. Yep I ended up making up a shield out of some sheet. Cut two pieces and mounted it off the bottom bolt on the cam cover, and then shaped it down the front of the headers, to protect the front loom and bolted it to one of the radiator mounts.
  8. I am considering selling it but not until I have found a replacement. It may take me a while to sort something now that we are in lockdown etc. Will keep in touch. On another note Has anyone had experience with the Xforce exhaust systems?
  9. I wonder if I just modify the Remus muffler and cut the 2.5inch pipe off it right at the muffler and then run 3 inch pipe work right the way up to it.
  10. I did have a 2.5inch Remus exhaust on it with twin tips before I fitted the HKS system. I still have the Remus exhaust so could always go back to that. I am only making 230kw so surely 2.5inch is big enough to support that power?? Here is a pic with the Remus from a few years ago before I did the restoration. Still quite like that look.
  11. It is very JDM however I've never been a huge fan of big bore exhausts. The only reason I bought it was because it was the only bolt on readily available 3 inch system available at the time for a reasonable price. I didn't even consider custom at that time. As I have got older and the car gets older I think either OEM look or rally car style look suits the GC8 best.
  12. I have noticed one scrape on the centre resonator. However I am getting some group N exhaust hangers to see if that helps lift it a bit. I am pretty fixed on staying 3inch the whole way through now. And needs to be stainless. The problem i have, is the HKS sounds very nice, and works well, and I already have it, however its just the the more look at it the more im not sure about how it looks. You can see the whole rear muffler hanging out the bottom of the car and it just looks a bit wrong. If the exhaust had 2 x 90 degree bends at the muffler so that it sat straight and high like a stock muffler it would look fine. The 4.5inch tip is just HUGE! 😀 I am leaning towards getting a custom Cat back made with an adrenalinR muffler hidden up behind the rear bumper and then a 3inch stainless pipe bent in an S shape and coming out nicely out from just below the bumper. Kind of like this https://www.haywardandscott.com/subaru/impreza-classic/subaru-impreza-classic-group-a-replica-3-rear-silencer.html Or this factory look would be nice too. https://www.haywardandscott.com/subaru/impreza-classic/subaru-classic-3-backbox.html It gets expensive getting stuff like this from the UK. Pity we don't have many people doing this type of thing for these older cars over here.
  13. Hey guys, I am looking into getting new struts for my RA. Wanting to replace existing ones with OEM replacements to complete my restoration. I have been pretty close to pulling the trigger on some new genuine STI Struts but they are expensive by the time they come from Japan. I am pretty sure the factory ones are KYB. Is there an off the shelf KYB strut that is the same? Or Bilstein equivalent? Also the car currently has Tein lowering springs in it. I have been looking into getting some genuine STI pink springs, however the front ones are no longer available brand new. What would be a good replacement spring? Or can you still get the OEM springs for these cars. Low is good but originality/ OEM spec is more important to me. Be glad of any ones experience doing something like this.
  14. Ok interesting that is basically what I have. Plenty of air comes through under the car when driving and I have made a heatsheild out of some heatsheild matt underneath the cambelt covers. I may look at doing something around the top of the up pipe too to limit the amount of hot air coming up to the intercooler.
  15. I think the HPC coating is working however where all the runners collect i am seeing some discolouration of the cam covers which would indicate there is still a fair amount of radiant heat in that area. I have made up a heatsheild for that area but was thinking the wrap would help the whole system and save having the heatsheild. Yep I did speak to them when I collected a couple of bits the other week. They basically said it would void the coating warranty and that the Wrap causes corrosion and the headers to rust out etc. Which is expected for them to say this, as I wouldn't expect them to say the wrapping is better. I would have thought the coating would reduce the chances of the wrap causing corrosion and rust the headers and the wrap would give some further heat management? However I am not sure whether doing this would then cause the stainless to get too hot. Hence I was wondering if anyone had actually done it and had some real world feedback.
  16. Seems like there isn't much option in NZ unless you got custom. Where as in the UK there are a few options but shipping kills it.
  17. Yer ok. I am trying to look at what 3 Inch options there are that sit nice and straight like a stock but offer better flow. Would like to stay 3 inch rather than 2.5 inch.
  18. @Loren Is your cat back a custom made one or off the shelf item? Still leaning towards something either more stock looking or Group A style. The HKS sits a little low and is a little big for my liking. Although it sounds great and flows great.
  19. Hey there, Has anyone one here HPC coated and wrapped their headers? Is it a good thing to do or is it better to do one or the other. I have my headers and up pipe ceramic coated already but have them off the car again. Just wondering if I should wrap them as well to decrease radiant heat further. I know its a much debated topic but just wanted to know if someone has used both together and what their results /experience was. Cheers
  20. RPG Carbon does one similar too in either carbon fibre or FRP. I am guessing that Genuine OEM V7 ones are different shape/ different mounting points to fit the gc8 bonnet.
  21. Cheers for that I hadn't seen those ones. They looked quite good! Definitely suit the lines of the car more than the V8 style scoops.
  22. Hey guys Has anyone fitted an OEM V7 STI bonnet scoop to a GC8? Is it possible or are the mounting points totally different. Thinking of putting something bigger on there but I don't like the look of the big V8-9 style aftermarket ones Cheers
