  1. If you look at the table at the start of this thread comparing wheel weights. You'll see Volk TE37 and Advan RG are noticably lighter than average. Would you describe those as light weight wheels? The other thing you could do to understand further is compare the weight of regular stock wheels to the wheels in the table. Most factory subaru 16s weigh 16.5lbs see here boy http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2239019
  2. Same circumference It's a simple fact that 17s weigh more than 16s and 7 inch wide weighs more than 6 inch wide. If you want to go bigger but not gain weight you have to go from a regular wheel to a lightweight wheel when you upsize
  3. Thanks Boon Forged are better than 2 or 3 piece aluminium wheels yeah?
  4. Looking at not just 16s but lightweight 16s and had a question Do the quality lightweights Advan, Volk etc use different alloys otherwise they'd be more prone to bending?
  5. Only been on a few days but gotta go - looking good is not worth that big a hit in performance Next wheels will either be lightweight 17s possibly with narrow tyres or back to 16s
  6. To answer my original question SP25 vs. WRX/S-GT 3rd Gen WRX/S-GT for the win An SP25 is a good car but it doesn't make that cool turbo noise or push you back in your seat Also 3rd Gen WRX/S-GT is cheaper than SP25
  7. Just went from 16' Subaru wheels to 17" Advanti Medusas They look awesome but farrrk it's slow now. They must be really heavy!
  8. Ok have since driven 2nd, 3rd and 4th Gen Impreza 2.0, 2nd Gen WRX, 4th Gen Legacy GT and 3.0R and Mazda 2.0 My picks were... The 2nd Gen WRX cos it's the most fun and still looks cool The 4th Gen Impreza 2.0 cos it's surprisingly fast around town with strong brakes and less wind and road roar
  9. For real? How do you explain all the recalls due to this faulty Takata component on Hondas, Fords, Toyotas etc?
  10. Yeah if you read article you will see it's a Subaru USA press release covering the US market This does not mean that NZ Subarus do not have the same fault That's why I started this thread
  11. In the news. Takata propelled airbags have killed drivers with shrapnel. Affects 2003 - 2005 Subarus Anyone know how to find out if my NZ New 04 Impreza has faulty Takata component? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11304559
  12. Yes it is lighter, hard to look that one up as it wasn\'t committed to memory... ;D From the NZ brochures... MY06 (hawkweye) WRX wagon; 2.5L turbo 169kW@5600rpm 320Nm@3600rpm 1430kg unladen mass F 4-pot/R 2-pot ventilated disc brakes 17" wheels with 215/45-17 tyres MY08 (fugly) WRX hatch; 2.5L turbo with AVCS 169kW@5200rpm 320Nm@2800rpm 1395kg unladen mass F vented/R solid sliding calliper/1-pot brakes all around 17" wheels with 205/50-17 tyres. Both run the same (ratios, final gearing) manual gearbox. Yeah hawkeye is nicer lookin Any auto trans option?
  13. Yeah had heard WRX S-GT suspension was more compliant. New better independent set up in the rear but softer springs But isn\'t it lighter with the engine and gearbox same as previous WRX tho? Or did they cut costs/improve economy?
  14. Ok guess it\'s different types of cars like Legacy GT vs Legacy H6 3.0 Out of interest have you compared Mazda SP25 to Legacy H6 3.0?
  15. Thanks Marky, sounds like you are saying Mazda SP23/5 is expensive for what it is compared to WRX S-GT? What about torque, a turbo car that\'s gutless unless you drive it hard is tiresome around town?
  16. Thanks for the tips on insurance and repairs Will get it serviced every 5000ks MPS doesn\'t come in manual so not an option for daily driver unfortunately Looking for effortless power and good handling Does the 3rd gen import WRX (07 S-GT) have power down low? The 2nd gen was severely lacking there
  17. and probably not a fair fight 07 WRX vs 350Z is probably a better comparison
  18. 2009 Mazda3 SP25 or 2007 WRX S-GT (about same price) Daily driver, automatic Off-turbo take off speed from lights important which encompasses engine, transmission, drivetrain and weight Also interested in handling around corners Hopefully someones driven both
  19. Just to clarify. Subaru factory immobiliser controls the cars ECU and always requires subaru transponder key to allow the car to start. An add on alarm can be added to protect against break in but remote will not enable/disable subaru immobiliser but can control remote central locking. In my case this Is a backup key so will get a transponder key only. That will allow me to get into the car, override the Dynatron alarm and start it. If I lose my original transponder + remote key I'll have to get either a dynatron remote also or upgrade the key to a full transponder + remote key.
  20. $200 was what they told me two years ago. It's now $249 for the key and another $90 for cutting and programming ex GST That's some serious inflation I found a guy who will do me a transponder key (no remote central locking) for $130-$150 so will go with that and override the alarm if I ever need this 2nd key
  21. Transponder keys are cheap enough, around $15 NZ but there's something else boosting it up to $200?
  22. I'm also after a new transponder key remote for my subbie with factory immobiliser Anyone know where to get for less than the Winger price of $200 big ones?? I had heard somebody does Sika/Silka ones for alot less than Subaru OEM price
  23. I have an 04 NZ new Subaru which has a transponder controlled immobiliser. It has had a Dynatron alarm upgrade added It only came with one key remote. I'd like another but Winger want $200. Can you put me onto someone who can supply me one for a more reasonable price?
