  1. That shop overcharges for everything so shouldn't be a surprise
  2. Heaps of people recommend these units but I am finding it hard to find any dyno graphs with these on ej207s on pump. I found one Holset HX35 bolted to twinscroll ej207 V8 NASIOC (in 3rd gear on US 92 fuel and USDM 6 speed) but they seem to spool late. Does Steve do anything with the internals of the turbo? The 2.5XTR will outspool the HX35/40 on JDM STis by the looks of it. Kris_pran on here is running 2.5XTR on v7 STI which can be found here and the spool is very nice.
  3. Blouch units are bolt-on on JDM STIs AFAIK and there is a guy in Australia running a 1.5XTR on his STI V8 or V9. Very fast spooling turbos but just kind of pricy. You have a big budget though and I think you can max the blouch unit on pump with a budget of 7k-7.5k max (no cams) with the mods you mentioned.
  4. I had my V8 STI insured with NAC for a year (cancelled day before yesterday) at 23 years old as the owner and the main driver and they had the cheapest premium out of a few I applied for. I got a better deal from my bank by insuring the car under my company. If I was you then I would list someone from your family over 25 years old as the primary driver and you as the secondary.
  5. I have been using PFR7B spark plugs for the last 14,000kms at 23psi without any issues.
  6. Just to put it out there, SC42 is an awesome turbo for the street but really expensive.
  7. Have you considered getting e-tuned from America? It's quite cheap, all you need is a cable and a wideband. I am planning to get my Version 8 STI by Phatron (from Nasioc) when I upgrade my setup. His reviews are really good and he has tuned many JDM motors. Link to reviews: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1982050
  8. Some tuners even make you sign waiver forms. I believe the owner ISN'T always 100% responsible if anything goes wrong during the tune. Imagine a case where a shop built and tuned your car and it blew up within weeks. In a case like this, the owner should not sign or be responsible for anything if the shop who got paid to build and tune the engine for X power level does a crappy job at it.
  9. When I texted him earlier this year, he said he is taking a break from tuning to spend time with his family.
  10. Check to see if the amp is running on Low Pass Filter for the speakers. If it is, then it will mostly play bass.
  11. If I remember correctly, an ECUTek tune will generally cost more due to the license and also make that tune accessible exclusively to ECUtek licensed tuners. If I was you then I would request to be tuned using Open Source tuning software.
  12. If you could share them, it will help all of us out =) Thanks
  13. Do you have the part numbers for the Version 8 STI gearbox syncrhos? It would help me out so much as I am looking to replace all of them.
  14. Out of curiosity, was your car running base tune or a finished tune?
  15. Yeap I have got a V8 STI. I don't have any pictures of my current setup on my phone but will take some tomorrow for you. The Polk speakers were quite easy to install as the car came with some Alpines before and already had a custom spacer built that I re-used. I did not want to use the stock tweeter mount because the tweeters came with the appropriate brackets etc to mount on the sail pod and it looks much nicer on the sail pod. Also, I like the tweeter height and placement on the sail pod due to the difference in sound too but everyone has their own preference so try both locations. The crossovers were mounted inside the door near the bottom so that window glass would not hit. It was a bit tricky to get it right but in the end it was worth it as there is no rattle from inside the door due to the thick tape I put under the crossover before mounting it. Luckily I have pics of my old bug impreza which I used to own 3 years ago with a similar setup except in this the crossovers are placed outside the door as seen by the images. The tweeter placement is exactly the same as my V8 STI.
  16. I currently run a 50RMS x 4 channel Rockford fosgate amp which came underrated from factory and was actually had an output of 60 RMS per channel as per the certificate that came with it. I run Polk Audio DB6501 (rated at 100RMS) component speakers on 2 channels and run an infinity sub on the other 2 channels bridged. I had to turn the bass down on the sub down because the bass was hitting way too hard for my taste. Try and get reputed brands because I have run cheap amps which claim to have higher RMS ratings than my Rockford Fosgate amp but don't even come close.
  17. Does anyone know why the short shifter would vibrate in 5th gear under WOT in STI Version 8?
  18. I had the same issue on my version 8 STI, noise when cold, gone when warm. I flushed the fluid and fixed it for me. Edit: Also, my power steering didn't work until car was warm and noise was gone.
  19. I have a set of RE002s 225/50/17 near new for a really good price if anyone here looking to buy. PM me
  20. To be honest, you are taking a risk of blowing the motor either way when you get a tune but the risk is lower when you have someone who has a lot more knowledge than your average tuner. Some of the tuners on nasioc give you all the details you need to make up your mind and they answer all your questions regardless if you choose to get a tune from them or not. Just because the power is high (on stock or built block) does not necessarily mean there is no reliability. The good thing about the tuners from overseas is that they proudly share most of their results on the power bragging page so you kind of get an indication of what type of power you can expect out of a certain setup but you just don't see that power here even though we are at low altitude.
  21. +1 Just my 2 cents but I think the tuners in states have a lot more experience and knowledge. For example, I was on the Evolutionm forum the other day and they are pushing crazy power on stock 9 turbo which people over here achieve with FP Red or GT3076. Not only that but over here the tunes are extremely laggy for even a FP Red whereas in the states they achieve full boost close to stock turbo on FP Red. Tunes over there are quite cheap too. The tuners try to extract as much power from the setup as possible whereas over here they play it overly safe. If I was to get a tune in the future, I would definitely go the remote tune route for my STI especially if I was looking at close to 300kw on stock block.
