  1. Hey guys, Does anyone know what the differences are between having a rolled edge muffler tip compared to straight edge? I am thinking of changing my muffler as the exhaust system is too loud, and a bit painful on the ears when driving for extended periods!   2. Right so Walbro or Dw200 or even aeromotives are all good pumps. And use the stock filter. If I do go with the walbro, Is there a big difference in installing the 341 vs 342?
  3. Right so is the consensus that the dw200 is a better quality pump? And it's better to use the stock fuel filter? Even though I've done 130kms?
  4. Hey All Hoping to get some feedback. Ive been scouring the forums to try find some info on fuel pump compatibility. The general consensus is that the perfect fit for my car is the Walbro 342 pump, but the ones on trademe are all 341s. I've read the difference is not that big and they will still fit. Now i don't have a whole lot of experience working on my car and was hoping to do the swap myself. Is changing the pump with a 341 a mission? Or is it straight forward like the 342? Was hoping to get this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1006485458 Pretty cheap, bit weary if its genuine or not, but he has pretty good feedback. Any comments / past experience would be greatly appreciated
  5. Ah I see. Thanks for the explanation. So with the fuel pump, is swapping just the pump enough? Or do I need to get that fuel pump kit, as well as replace the fuel filter?

  7. I think from what I've read and what you guys are saying, its definitely a good idea to get an uprated new fuel pump to replace the old one. Stock STI injectors and fuel lines are fine for HP up to which the stock turbo can handle - works for me im aiming for 230-240kw So the list will be: 1. Fuel pump - Walbro 342 fuel pump? 2. Grimmspeed 3-port Boost Solenoid 3. Intake silence delete and new panel filter 4. GFB recirc Mach 2 BOV 5. New spark plugs - a step colder Rekon I'll need new ignition leads too? Anything else?
  8. Ahh so hard to choose! I have only heard good things about Torque Performance and they have done plenty of V8 STIs too. All raving about how good the tune was. Im expecting a similar result to this: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.965656496832293.1073741939.380289938702288&type=3 I should have similar mods before getting it tuned. They are $1300 for the full tune, with money back or retune quarentee within 14 days. Anyone on here had a tune from Torque Performance?
  9. Sorry to resurrect this thread. But would like to know what you guys think when comparing Torque Performance to Possum Bourne Motorsport for getting my 04 WRX STI tuned? Anyone had experience with both? Just spoke to Possum and they have a real in depth approach to tuning, complete with checking your car is up to scratch, leak test, normal driving optimization, cold start and warm up tuning, adjusting throttle response, full power dyno tune across all rpms and gears and also a road test. Heard a number of good reviews for Torque performance too. Trying to pick the best tuner
  10. Fair point there. I've got a full TBE so with down-pipe and no cat. All i have are the receipts from the previous owner which state (when he changed the whole exhaust) the replace part was: 'Subaru Twin Scroll Turbo Downpipe'. $350 worth
  11. This is awesome info man, thanks heaps! I guess I am aiming for 230-240kw from my dyno tune (at Torque Performance) and need to figure out the best combo of parts to get there. I know another guy got his v8 STI tuned there with full TBE, K&N typhoon intake, grimmspeed 3-port and GFB recirc BOV. He netted 233kw atw. So i was thinking, similar mods would give me a similar net power output. The things i have no idea about are if: 1. Adding a high flow fuel pump will add any value to achieving 230-240kw - Is the stock one capable of delivering up to this level? 2. Is replacing the intake with a dyno tune going to give me a power gain - So many mixed opinions on this! 3. Spend the $350 on an intake on something else with more power yield?   13. Hey Guys, I am planning a list of mods before I get a full dyno tune done. Currently my 2004 WRX STI has got a full turbo back exhaust (custom made - bought the car with it on), not too happy with the exhaust tone and cabin resonance. Due to the car overboosting heaps, i got the boost pill drilled out slightly, just until i could save enough for a tune. I've also got a lot of wastegate chatter as well that I'm hoping to get rid of with the tune, and/or parts. I am planning to install the following before getting it tuned at Torque Performance: 1. GFB Mach 2 Recirc BOV 2. Grimmspeed 3-port Boost Solenoid 3. AdrenalinR Muffler - Try fix some of the in cabin resonance 3. K&N Typhoon short ram Intake and intake silence delete - Not sure if this is the best intake to get, any ideas? 4. Any aftermarket wastegate actuator to fix the wastegate chatter and provide better response - Not sure which one to get yet. The plan is to get all of these parts, and install just before getting a tune done. What do you guys rekon? Cheers.
  14. Is that effectively manual boost control? I'm still quite new to all of this, from what I've read, it's really hard to get manual boost control right? And very easy to damage the engine by not setting it up right?
  15. I guess my main issues is i cant afford a proper dyno tune right now, and I'd rather do few more mods to the car before spending $1300 on a tune, to make it worth my while. So, what options do i have to stop the boost spiking due to the exahust, without requiring a tune?
  16. Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah gonna be pretty tight to try get the dyno tune aye. Would i be able to get a more stable boost by just replacing the stock solenoid like you mentioned? And then get the tune done a bit later?
  17. Hey guys! new to the forums. I've just purchased a 2003 STI done 125k, only had it for two weeks. So nice! Its got a turbo back exhaust, hence the boost is spiking to 1.5 bar in some cases. Which is why i want to get it tuned. I've been reading the forums both here and the American NASOIC ones too. The general consensus i am finding is that people advise against getting boost controllers, and rather recommend getting the factory ECU tuned. So I have decided to get it tuned, and here is where i get stuck! I don't have a huge budget, but here are the options I have found: 1. Tune through a guy that 'knows his stuff' - Uses ROM Raider and will plug into factory ECU and remap. He recommended getting an aftermarket boost controller to help regulate boost on high gears under more load. $300 for tune + Boost controller & Install. So maybe $600 total 2. Plugin tune through 'Tune Technic' - They are a mobile company that will use a baseline tune based on the mods I have and modify the tune to exactly suit my car. Sounded promising. $900 3. Dyno tune factory ECU through 'Torque Performance' - Most of you will know these guys. Really positive reviews with good safe performance gains. Most expensive option and will cost $1300. What would you guys recommend I do? I'm probably not going to be modding the car hugely in the near future, so i need a tune that's going to be reliable and not blow my motor, at the same time not going to cost an arm and a leg! Appreciate any feedback
