  1. mmmmmm.......this thread has me thinking about the noise my bov makes. when it releases ......whether its low or high revs .......it's not just 1 whoooooooshh! but more like a stuttered fluttering release. I've often heard the noise described as "butterfly". Are some bovs purposely made to release this way or should it just not be fluttering at all?
  2. a new law change and all of a sudden my cars too loud! WOF man told me might not pass next wof. I'm runnin 3" straight off the downpipe out to what I have been told is quite a small cannon style muffler.....could be the source of my probs? Is it just a case of upgrading to bigger cannon to deaden the sound? What should I look for in a good muffler anyway? any advice appreciated
  3. what fuel pump u running bro? Is this something that's only just started happening ...or something that started after you did a mod?

yes that's a great idea and you've got me thinking that my pod really doesn't need to be down that far. I could shorten that pipe by quite a bit and that would lift the pod higher. I'm not getn any issues at the mo with water but it would prolly reduce any risk and is easily done........cheers for that
  5. pretty much agree with everything that's been said but if ur hellbent on winding up the boost then ur biggest bang for buck mod is a boost tap. That should put u in the 12psi range (assuming ur engine is ok in the first place). once u get past 12 or so psi u might start getn boost cut which I believe is the factory map sensor fail safe telling you to turn down or detonate! In any event the factory settings won't let u run it over a certain psi. To go beyond 12 psi safely u will need other supporting mods and it can get pricey!..........and once u start it's soooo hard to stop :-) Good luck

lol......yes i have an inner guard it was just peeled back in this shot while I fitted the pod up. I posted some of the probs i origanlly had with this setup earlier in this thread...... but I overcame them. It's just another option for people who want to take the pod right outa the engine bay for guaranteed cold air all the time. The best thing is.....i designed it, it works, and it was cheap. Happy to help out anyone that wants to do this mod :-)

wanted better air so did this little intake mod
  11. I've just scored a front set of gtb rotors and calipers to fit my 89 rs leggy. The rotors look good.....have some surface rust but no lips or grooves. do I need to face them or just emery paper the surface rust off and slap the calipers on? If they need facing......can any1 recommend somewhere in lower hutt for good but cheapie job?
  12. yep filter is under the guard. One of the kits is made by APS.....expensive.....$5 hundy and something......minus fitting costs. Honestly......save urself sum pinga. Measure up and do it urself.
  13. cheers for that. so many things to upgrade :-)
  14. pretty sure u can buy kits for rexs that pipe the pod to the drivers side guard
  15. when i first ran the pod under the guard some water did get in and frak'd with the afm but that was cause the plastic inner guard was worn at the top and water was flung into the guard space off the wheels. the lugs holding the inner guard in place at the front had also popped out and the damn thing was hanging down acting as a water scoop! lol Got it all sorted now. If you want cold air... a pod under the guard is an option for you. I looked at several cold air box setups but they all sucked in air through the factory hole in the engine bay wall which was only 3" anyway and restrictive. If you cut the hole bigger some wof places will ping you but if u can get away with it sweet as. Also, unless u have an absolutely airtight seal between the air box and the engine bay.....you will suck in hot air.....it can't be avoided. At least you have options :-)
  16. have a think about taking ur pod right outta the engine bay altogether......run it under the drivers guard. Got sums pics of my leggy setup if ur interested
  17. look for rust in structural areas...door cavities, around windscreens etc....check the area where spare wheel is kept for rust. put it in full lock both ways and do sum circles..........listen for the tell tale signs of cv's on their way out. Ask the current owner about the history of the car and find out what work its had done on it.............receipts for previous work etc. How does it handle and feel? look at the general wear and tear on the car both inside and out and ask urself if the K's on the clock reflect the wear and tear u can see. get underneath it. look for oil leaks fluid leaks etc. check that all the electrics work. hope that helps
  18. This might not be helpful given you already got ur a2a but have a good think about water to air set up. Really under rated but very efficient well into the 250kw atw terrirtory
  19. I've heard I can get good KW gains by upgrading the factory headers on my 89 rs leggy to tuned length extractors.....only prob is it will sound like a honda.....or so I'm told. Can I still get good power gains by upgrading to untuned or unequal length extractors and still keep the subie rumble?
