  1. Hi Percy, Thanks for your reply. Lucky you are! )) I couldn't find more info online, so decided to email directly to Subaru in Japan for official comment on their JDM models. I will need a help of my Japanese friend for this )) I will update the thread if anything new found.
  2. AFAIK FB25 is a new generation of EJ25 (non turbo), while FB20 is a new generation of EJ20. FB25s are chain driven. The easiest way to find out by engine photo is that oil filter can be seen on the right side of the engine top... A blue one on this picture: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ray_Baldwin_Subaru_Stamford_NY_Auto_Show_021.JPG If you search Legacy 2012 on trademe, there will be only about 3-4 with FB25, while others will still have EJ25. Picture is different for 2013 onwards - all of them equipped with FB25.
  3. Found that in https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/3879503/all/Subies,_the_engines_again... "... The interesting part is that it only seems to affect North American cars; I haven't seen anyone in the EU or Asia reporting similar issues. That does tend to imply that the low viscosity oil forced on us by the CAFE madness is likely to be a large part of the problem. ..."
  4. Hi, Synthetic is better IMHO, less friction -> more goodness for gearbox, longer change interval, etc. https://carmanuals2.com/get/subaru-legacy-2005-owner-s-manual-88533 Should be straightforward. pages: 530-540. Cheers
  5. Hi guys, I'm after a "fresh subaru blood", so thinking about Legacy 2013, but their oil consumption issue (https://subaru.oemdtc.com/80/engine-oil-consumption-2013-2015-subaru) keeps me awake. The good thing though is that not all cars are affected. As per above mentioned link only these VINs have the issue: Below D*048086 So the question is: Is this info applicable to JDM Subarus as well? If so, will it right to rely on it when buying JDM ones? Or is it for USA market only? Thanks!
