  1. The power is one thing, but it\'s more i personally like the car. But I\'m certainly not in love with it. I don\'t care about the fuel bills, I want another subi!
  2. All i want to say about them has already been said in other comments. Everything i read I agree with 100%. I have a BZG (5 Speed) - BZR is normally the 6 speed with a few other special things. I\'m so bored of mine though, I want a type r coupe
  3. Well thought I\'d thrown in an update. Mechanic has made some calls and shown it to someone who does alot of subarus and they believe it\'s a BEB! Question, if it was a BEB you couldn\'t drive it right? Because it was driving fine before the fuel pump failure. I\'ve spoken to Hamish @ H&N and he warned as others did to get the 2nd opinion as he sees alot of misdiagnosed BEB as the simple piston slap. Just trying to find a way to have a day off and get it taken over to Tauranga for him to look at it. Wife\'s feelings and mother in laws love of a local spare part company are now becoming part of the discussion, which just makes it all so much harder for me. Thanks again for all the comments guys, I know it\'s just a mechanical problem posting here, and I can sometimes get to that in between all the other feelings and circumstances that have become apart of the conundrum.
  4. Thanks guys, Marky, I\'m tempted too but will still need to do cambelt, seals etc first though (leaking oil). If it did crap out you wouldn\'t reuse these again though right?
  5. Ok so finding out exactly what is wrong is definitely the first thing right? Whether my current mechanic will do that or someone else and how much? I was thinking of giving Hamish a call from H&N in Tauranga and having a chat to him tomorrow. The car is currently in Edgecumbe (I live in Rotorua). Found on trade me a 2nd hand motor that\'s done 130k for $1200 pickup from Auckland, that\'s doable but again a risk on how long that will last before next issue. How much roughly am I looking at to rebuild the current one? Who to do it? Not interested in power as it\'s not my car But after reliability. Or does anyone know of one I can buy that\'s already been done? Rebuilt and reconditioned same thing?
  6. Thanks guys, really don\'t want to try and sell something that is undiagnosed I feel. Maybe because it could be somethings reasonably easy? I wish I had learnt more about cars rather than computers in my younger years in times like this!
  7. Hey guys, I\'ve got a BG5 legacy wagon, it\'s had an oil leak in the front mount seal. I gave it to my mechanic to do cambelt, seals, etc etc (might as well do the lot right?) but he pointed out to me it has a knock. His best guess is a piston sleave without stripping it down too much. So I\'m thinking options, obviously it\'s not worth doing the original work if the knock is going to be terminal right? As it\'s my wife\'s car for getting the kids to school etc, it\'s been a real pain not having it as I work out of town. In saying that we will have to make do without until we can get the legacy sorted. If the engine was fine, i\'d say it\'s only worth 3.5k to 4.5k, it is in pretty decent condition. As most people with a young family saving the $1000 bucks for the original work took long enough, but I\'m really just stumped on what to do now. I hope this paints a picture. Do I buy a 2nd hand motor? rebuild the current one? Any suggestions are appreciated guys.
  8. Couldn't find that thread, but found this funny piece of news http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/motoring/7057875/Scubaru-Car-starts-after-months-in-icy-lake
  9. Thanks guys, confirmed my suspicions! Yes will get some things organised tomorrow, it's outside my window at night, if I hear something go bump in the night the dog WILL be the least of their worries! Appreciate all the suggestions, I especially like the ones where I sure use violence wherever nessacery!
  10. Hey guys haven't posted in awhile but I need some advice. Today my wife was driving my car and parked it outside a fruit and vege shop, while inside 3 young boys (teenageish) approached the car and were checking it out, my wife saw them they all got their phones out and started taking photo's of it, getting closer to them after noticing them heard them saying "is this the car?" "yeah this is the one i've seen around" "ok grab the licence plate" obviously the last thing rang serious alarm bells for me when she told me tonight. Pretty sure their prospecting my car? What do you guys think? I have an AVS 5 Star and a dog, but thieves will get round those things easy enough.
  11. Yeah the idling is pretty rocky now from time to time (around town) where as before it would take a long trip and have the idle cut out. I had someone else check the install of it and they said it looked pretty good, suggested that the BOV could be leaking but the gauge gets the reading off the line before it hits the BOV. Someone else said that the Vaccum reading would be the giveaway, I don't remember what it was before, but the vaccum is -18 on idle if that's any help. Cheers for the reply's guys, I might try putting the factory back on this weekend and see how it looks.
  12. Quick question... Still to do the idle control valve and throttle body (waiting on gaskets) But since changing from the factory BOV to this HKS one boost has gone from 16PSI (on factory BOV) to 12PSI on HKS one. I am a real nub with this, I'm getting the readings off the boost gauge. Is this an issue I need to deal with before I cause some damage? I know we installed a bung to block one of the hoses and connected everything else OK. Just want to check. Let me know if pictures are required, and I appreciate any help and/or advice anyone can give me.
  13. Thanks mate Yeah that was what we were planning to do cleanout that and throttle body etc Thanks for the reply
  14. Hey guys, I'm dropping some money on the V4 Wagon this weekend (radiator tank split open) so new rad and hose kit ordered and on the way! However while I'm doing some work next weekend I thought I could try a couple things to address an idle issue that I have after a long trip e.g Rotovegas to Tauranga where when is off the gas and car goes to idle when stationary it cuts out and I need to restart the car. It doesn't really bother me to much, my go foot and peddle are like twin brothers, but for my wife it makes her abit nervous when she drives. Some ideas to fix this would be great, and looking at a budget of about $250 available to spend. Thinking about some things to try: Aftermarket BOV (currently stock one) Gaskets for Intake Manifold, throttle and idle and give all of this a cleanout? (Thinking of repainting manifold at the same time) New leads and plugs (current ones I haven't touched so might just be nice to know these are new, wont fix idle) Just trying to make the best decision really, just wondering if anyone minded adding suggestions for this. The car is pretty stock standard. Cheers P.S - I have this saved on my watchlist atm : http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=439754929
  15. Trying to get a Vegas Police scanner feed to listen too, that would be interesting
