  1. STi Factory Immobiliser - I've read that only the NZ new STi's have immobilisers and the JDM's don't. But that seems odd as my 2003 Outback import has a chip based immobiliser. Does anyone know from what year the NZ STi had a factory immobilizer fitted? And the same for JDM, I assume they must be fitted as standard by now.
  2. I've been looking at V11/12 Sti's and so far none of my test drives sounded good, they all seem to sound sharp and lack the traditional Subaru rumble. And no I'm not buying based on sound, I just want to understand where I can end up and hopefully find a car with some of the mods done already. I first drove an NZ new 2011 with a titanium system that was painfully sharp, and that fell through as the guy sold it after agreeing on a price (deposit paid) - another story. But it did have some of the rumble, I've since driven 3 JDM ones with cat-backs, but they all sounded crisp like any other brand JDM import, no rumble at all. Can you get the rumble back with a new exhaust or it is the joy of the equal length headers? My end goal is a weekend car, down pipe, full exhaust and a basic remap and suspension if need be (famous last words). Anyway I hope to get a good rumble - I really love the rumble - but without a sharp sound on top. Thoughts, recommendations please.
  3. Currently looking at an STi, the first was was a wee bit modded and my long time insurance company (AMI after years of no claims) threw a fit and wouldn't touch it... Grrr. Anyway during my search for an insurer immobilizers came up, how good are the factory ones on the NZ new models? I imagine the typical alarm ones are all installed in the same location and easy to bypass. Anyone recommend a good alarm installer?
  4. I didn't think you could steal them, so much for the immobilizer. Bummer.
  5. I didn't think you could steal them, so much for the immobilizer. Bummer.
  6. How did your band expander go? I have the same head unit but it has two aerial leads. How did you deal with this?
  7. Well yes, it's about 200~300mm from the input to the head unit. Tell me more about the Missan band expander option please, is it a Nissan factory item or an aftermarket add on?
  8. Hi, I have pretty poor radio reception. I pulled my dash apart and there are 2 aerial leads. Wingers just spliced them together and then fed them into the band expander. Has anyone experimented with this? I would assume joining 2 aerial leads together would have the impedance and halve the signal too. Is my theory correct here? Am I better to install a second band expander? Has anyone played with this? There seem to be arial loops in the rear (wagon) side screens and possibly one across the top of the rear window. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. I have an LCD touch screen with a lot of setting options (all in Japanese), I was hoping a manual would clear these up.
  10. Yup but my Japanese isn't quite what I hoped ;D Thanks JoKer I'll give it a try and let you know.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. I think it would be nice to have one, I just wanted to make sure they wern't crap.
  12. When the car is locked and I lift the door handle it beeps. I recall reading somewhere, that you can program them with a code to match a series of operations. Does anyone know how to do this? Great for surfing etc you can leave the key in the car, I don't want to get a $600 transponder key wet.
  13. I've got a 4th Gen and it comes with a factory alarm (so-so) and a chipped key. Am I correct in the only way they can steal this is by towing? I'm trying to decide if it's worth spending more on an alarm? Just in case, if someone does know the way around the factory chipped key please don't post it :-)
  14. Try the Wellington and Christchurch Subrau Parts dealers, I got quoted some parts which were 25% less than Wingers. I may have just been lucky, but then again they seemed pretty happy to sell to be selling up to Auckland. Theye were friendly to deal with too.
  15. Has anyone bought off this guy? Are the manuals any good? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Subaru/Manuals/auction-312930670.htm
  16. Ha ha, wish it was (or it may be and it's toast). I tried the Rev without success. I don;t actually use the Fog lights, and I hate all the W@nkers in the BMW's who drive around with their blinding rear fog lights on.
  17. Has anyone upgraded the Reverse light? I personally find just having the one is not up to the task on wet or foggy nights. And just to clarify my model only has the Rev light on the left, the right hand one is an LED Fog Light.
  18. On the right rear of the tailgate I have the LED fog light. When I turn on the rear fog light the end 4 LED's don't light up. I have checked at the dealer, they have no idea (suprise suprise) but it was the same for other cars on the yard. Looking closely the end 4 LEDs are different, also there are 4 wires going into the back of it, so there are 2 circuits. But I can't make them go, I have tired brakes while the fog's are on... everything. What am I missing here people?
  19. I've taken photo's of all the main screens and I'm going to get a Japanese mate to translate for me. I tired a couple of Japanese girls I know but it's technical Japnese/English so that didn't work out, my other mate is fluent but again it's technical Kanji. Non the less I'm on a mission and will post the results soon.
  20. I have a BPE Outback, it came with a key/remote combo as they all do I guess. Is there any alarm that will be able to be triggered from this remote rather than having to carry another remote on my key ring? I assume there is no built in audible alarm that I haven't enabled - there are lots of settings on the Navi system and some may be security related. Anyone recommend a good alarm guy on the North Shore? There seem to be a lot of cowboys about.
  21. So shouldn't a BEE be a Gen 3? Also how does a B4 fall into all this?
  22. Thanks, I assume it's going to be a few $$$$ I'll give them a call, you never know. But I can live with one remote.
  23. Ahhh thanks Boostin that's fantastic, exactly what I was looking for, should be a Sticky.
  24. I'm in the same boat, I have a JDM Dec 03 Outback BPE which has the same navi as in the photo posted earlier. Mine came with the DVD which doesn't help much but is kind of cool to poke around the huge number of screens that makes available. In your cae I don't know that just changing the DVD player will work, the firmware/OS is most likely in the screen itself as that is the NAVI system so you would need to replace the whole thing. If you are in Auckland you are welcome to pop to the shore and see if my DVD will work in yours, but still Japanese. They are dual layer so maybe not so easy to copy. Just for the record I tried playing a Japan Zoned DVD with no luck. It would be cool to be able to play DVD's. It's so annoying to have something so cool in your car and not be able to use 90% of its features.
