  1. btw, how can I test 'new' second hand sensor to make sure it aint busted before I put it in...?
  2. my man boostin, I was waiting for someone to say that. I guess at motorway speeds the engine is being cooled enough to keep sensor happy and when down to low speeds just gets a bit warm and sensor f's out. Looks like a fun project for the weekend ;D
  3. yup bought the car a month ago so been working on it since getting it up to scratch, I hate people that let nice cars go to waste through not maintaining them properly
  4. nah no pinking (but then again I didn't know what it was), seems to only be when put putting around town that CEL comes on, yeah I thought it was bizarre that it hates 98 too, immediate CEL and limp home mode as soon as I put it in, did it twice so haven't been doing it since. I'm thinking factory airbox, anyone have one for sale?
  5. using 95 Shell V Power, fresh fuel, don't know what pinking is...? On a side note, every time I have put 98 in it has had an absolute fit.
  6. Hey guys, So used a can of upper engine cleaner this afternoon and didn't blow as much smoke as I was expecting but throttle response & idle are amazing compared to prior. Took it for a test run down the motorway to Petone and back into town after doing the plug in both green + black plugs get over 11kph blinking CEL thing (to get rid of Knock Sensor code that was already present), felt like a new car driving out to Petone and back with no CEL coming on at all, get back into town and slow down to 50kph and CEL comes on again... Go back on to the motorway to conduct a little test and after a couple of km's CEL goes off again...back into town to go park up at home and it comes back on again. I do have a replacement knock sensor but if I can pinpoint the problem without having to go to the hassle of replacing it I would be stoked. Any ideas guys? I was thinking along the lines of its nice and cool with plenty of air flowing to Pod filter (through a vacuum (as in household vaccum) hose that goes down below front right fog light and up to Pod) but then when it gets into town too much heat in the engine bay causing something to happen to throw CEL?? I am probably completely off target so any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben
  7. my mate used to work in those two Tournament car parks - Lombard & James Smith, they don't do f all security walks or anything and heaps of cars get broken in to there. I definitely would not park there.
  8. nice driver Pedro, where do you play? We should see if there are a few Subaru enthusiasts around that golf and check out the regions courses
  9. shot guys I never checked to see if the rubber gasket from the old filter was still on, that sounds exactly what would cause this. Appreciate the help!
  10. Hi guys, I changed the oil on my 96 BG5 Legacy Wagon last night. Had a couple of issues getting the original filter off but got there in the end. Did everything as per normal and screwed the new filter on as tight as I could by hand (I'm no massive guy but not weak as either) filled it up with some nice expensive Valvoline Syn Power and started her up, only to hear squirting noises and find all of the new oil on the ground under my car and it appears it has squirted out between the filter and its mounting... I am humurously looking at it as a very expensive engine flush but I really don't want to make the same mistake again so any ideas or better technigues would be appreciated...should I just use an oil wrench and tighten it more or do you think it is cross threaded or something? Can't wait to get new oil in it and start the engine, as soon as everything heats up theres going to be A LOT of smoke as the excess burns off.
