  1. Hey guys. I'm replacing factory unit which has stopped playing CD's so time for an upgrade. Do I need a band expander for my XT forester? Only ones I can find are for 2005+ models and i'm not keen to do all the PITA pulling apart of the dash twice lol Cheers heaps
  2. Wouldn't having a transponder continuously 24/7 in the car have the fuel pump, ecu etc primed or running using power all the time. [quote name='kwi_fozze said: you are in luck. its not a transponder, mearly a door open and close keyfob.Great news thanks dude.. I have a BMW 5 series and the hassle to get a cheaper one instead of the $650 odd dollars from the dealership had me going crazy lol any old key can be cut to fit, go for gold
  3. Hey team, Tried the search function to no avail, but where do I get a new key transponder thing from??... I'm guessing i can go to the dealer but my experience in the past says they will be more expensive then alternatives you fellas will know. This is the key i have.. Sorry for the ridic link but couldn't attach any pics. TIA https://www.google.co.nz/search?site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1280&bih=597&q=subaru+forester+key&oq=subaru+forester+key&gs_l=img.3..0l2j0i8i30j0i24l7.1499.6427.0.6762.15.12.0.3.3.0.283.1569.2-6.6.0....0...1ac.1.64.img..6.9.1593...0i30j0i5i30.VZyeb_KdBEk#imgrc=8AgCC64_4Pi9xM%3A
  4. AB automatics over near Portmouth drive are really good. Many mechanics sub trans work to them, i've had them do work on a few Euros in the past and my SG5 late last year.
  5. Cheers for the replies guys... Sorry I was just a bit pissed off, I bought this car as a replacement to an Audi Quattro that served me well for 5 years but just getting tired, with many naysayers saying "Ohhh stay away from Subarus" blah blah blah, bought a clean example with a PPI from Crowesport (all good) bought it back to Dunners and then within a week I had to replace Trans and now being told that it could F up from replacing one tyre...FML!! Surely that's a design flaw! My old BF5 rolled around on 3 19's and one 15 for about 3 months when I was a young fella SMH
  6. Sell 3 good tyres and then buy 4 new! Is this actually what Subaru drivers have to do every time they get a puncture or get uneven wear? I thought all the info i was reading was taking the piss... but if this is actually case i'm starting to regret buying one!
  7. Hey guys, i've bought a nice set of OEM 18's off TM but 1 of the tyres has a bubble in the side wall so needs to be replaced. My Q is: Can i replace the one by itself or the 2 on the same axle OR do i need to replace all 4 like i've read online which sounds totally ridiculous and scaremongering to me. Cheers
  8. My Foz XT has a terribly tame growl and i'm wanting to hear at least some of that old school Subie rumble. I know, I should turbo back but right now a muffler tip will have to do. Can anyone recommend one that's not ricer loud or too ridic size wise? TIA
  9. Thank you for that sobanoodle, I thought that's what it was. Now to devise a delete for it lol
  10. Thanks for that, tiny pic wouldn't let me copy the forum link and i couldn't post the attachment and even resize didn't work damnit!!
  11. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=fcij5e&s=9#.VjxThWtLNXZ Hey guys... I'm assuming it's some sort of factory remote holder that has gone missing over the years. It's pretty ugly so i'm thinking of removing it and just wondering if anyone has any info on it. TIA
  12. Sorry after watching the video again i realised he was turning, this noise also happens in a straight line! No lights and the only thing i can find with similar symptoms seem to come back to replacing centre diff/transfer case.
  13. Hi guys, So today I went to do a U turn in the Forester, when I started I felt a clunk and then as I continued driving I got a repetitive thump coming from what I assumed was right below the shifter I was pretty close to a mechanics so I stopped in to see them. They took it for a couple of small drives and then up on the hoist, they diagnosed that "teeth have stripped from the gearbox to engine or diff (Wasn't really listening when he told me i need a new gearbox TBH) but he said it would be replacement auto box, fluid and 7 hours labour. The thing is I limped it home and the gearbox seemed to be performing fine, changing smooth, no slippng, power loss etc which made me think more along the lines of front/centre diff, a little youtubing and Googling I found this video which the symptoms are pretty much identical to mine... does this sound more likely the issue than a gearbox and is this a common issue with the SG Foresters?TIA guys
  14. Cheers, that\'s pretty much what i was wanting! Thanks
  15. Hi guys, just a quick Q! I\'m looking at a decent low kms WRX (apart from bearing) and wondering roughly how much would it cost to replace a Bottom end bearing, and also any other preventative maintenance that could be done at the same time. Thanks in advance
  16. Check out my topic. http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php/topic,21550.0.html
  17. Cheers thanks for that, if the other ideas don't work i will get it pressure tested [quote name='DRFVDR said: why oh why do people think that if u have a HG gone u get oil in water or vise versa I have seen many many HG go and have never seen oil in water or water in oil Thanks for posting on the interweb and your constructive post ;D
  18. Cheers for the help guys i will give those tips a nudge. I thought the same, but no oil in water or water in oil! Will get it pressure tested if i have no luck.
  19. Fairly sure...though my first time with a BG5, so was not 100% sure how to do it :'( Tips??
  20. Sorry, yes pushed water out of the overflow!! Radiator and head gaskets are all good. Didn't think the heater core would be a prob but will check that out! [quote name='Drunkenmonkey said: Turn ac on to see if fans go Yeah i did, the fans didnt start!
  21. Hey team, i have a overheating problem with my BG5 GT. I changed the waterpump and thermostat (OEM) as it was leaking. So did the cambelt at the same time, put it all back together and took it for a run. After about 20mins of running it just started to overheat, very quickly, i got home before it got too hot and had a look, the engine was very hot but the bottom hose was not (slightly warm) instantly i thought the thermostat was poked, so pulled it too bits again and tested the thermostat (hot water trick) but it seemed to open no worries! I did notice that the right side fan (looking in the bonnet) was not going when it was hot...which i assume would be going by that point! Can anyone give me an idea what could be up? and also how i can test the fan/fan wiring when its supposed to only kick in when its hot. Thanks heaps!!!
  22. Awesome thanks man, i ended up doing something like that with small U clamps...will def look out for some cam gear holders
  23. Nope, i got a Subaru timing diagram from a mechanics shop to borrow...i can try and scan or take a pic if there are no other links!? Cambelt was still a b!tch to get back on and timed up properly, but eventualy got it...at least the 12 hours of pissing around with this should make it much much easier the next time i have to do it!
