What sort of issues? Did the aftermarket one not fit properly

+1 , What issues are you having?

You may well find any radiator shop wont want to know about the typical cheap alloy Chinese radiators Im afraid, I have an inlaw with a radiator shop and he wont work on them.

i believe that he got it from Redline, so it shouldn't be bad quality beside if it was then he can just return it

Yeah, stupid Spec C's hahaha. I took the radiator out to replace it, and I find an oil cooler built into the bottom tank! So my alloy one won't work.

I don't know what oil it is, engine or transmission? I'd suggest maybe transmission as it was pretty clean, and I know my engine oil is due for a change.

I was wanting to see if any radiator shop had come across this before and if they had anyone that may be able to build the cooler into my alloy one.

I have however been advised that the cooler isn't 100% necessary and that I can just loop the lines into each other. So I'll do that for a temporary (read: probably permanent haha) fix, and install the alloy one as per normal :)

Pretty certain it's a transmission cooler, as the STi engine oil coolers are run off a sandwich adaptor where the oil filter screws on.

the Spec C's got them, the autos all do and the v9 on wards get them...

and yes they are transmission coolers

Dont worry about the cooler. BT ran into the same problem when his radiator broke at a race meet and the replacemnet he got didnt have the cooler in the bottom tank. He just looped the lines (where the hardlines end at the front of the LH chassis rail). Has been running it for 4 race meetings so far with no issues.

I also dont run a transmission cooler on my 6 speed and have had no problems either. If our race cars are okay without it, then I am sure your street car will be.

If you are that concerned, then you can get an external trans cooler and run the lines to that, BUT, you have to get a fairly small one as you dont want to over-cool the oil.... and then the problem is actually finding one small enough (which semed to be easier said than done with all the suppliers I checked with when trying to get BT one).

Cheers for that Tony, and yeah BT told me that same info, so I'll just run it that way. Will look around for a small cooler, but it's no biggie if I don't get one.

Funky - cos it split the top tank, so had to get a new radiator. Thought an alloy one would be a good upgrade.

So it would seem that I have the totally wrong radiator for my model. Cooling aside, it has a radiator cap setup, whereas my V7 one doesn't. Looks like i'll be taking it back and seeing if they have any proper V7 ones.

But I'm wondering, maybe a BE/BH radiator may also work..

EDIT: I've looked at engine bay pics on Trademe, and have seen twin radiator cap setups on V7 STi and V8 WRX, but not on V7 WRX non-STi.

Just a thread hijack here, how is the radiator tank set up on the later models? I'm curios as I'm going for a alloy upgrade on my gc8 and I've just shaved the mounting points for the toptank off my intake manifold. I noticed the GDB radiators have a cap built on them and wondered it it was possible to use a modified one of them instead of needing to mount the toptank somewhere else.

yea im gonna run mine without a coolant reservoir, its not really needed and looks much better with less crap in the engine bay, you could just get a cap fitted/welded to whatever radiator you end up buying. my rx2 alloy radiator im using already has a cap fitted to it so ill just use it as it is.

have seen someone with a setup plumbed into the top hose as well, with the cap there, think it was someone in the club actually.

yeah ives seen similar setups. Wasnt totaly sure if they were needed. Would you need to weld fittings for the turbo cooling etc onto the radiator, or is there somewhere else?

Would a GDB one actualy fit or do they have different mounting points?

i couldnt honestly tell you if the gdb one will fit, i think inlet may be in a slightly different place though from pics i've seen, may just be a case of swapping hoses to late model, someone else will be able to tell you for sure.

any yip you will need a fitting welded on for turbo coolant return, unless the late model radiator already has this :)

Doesnt really matter Paul... my V8 had a radiator cap setup on the radiator as well as the header tank, but when I changed to the V7 one it didnt have one and just bleed it through the header tank... same issue but vice versa!

Ok well if that's the case, I need to route another hose to it somehow cos it has an outlet valve just below the cap. So where will that go?

Will I need to "T" it into an existing hose?

Got the two standard outlets off the header tank right, one of those goes to the standard valve on the top of radiator, and the other goes to the overflow bottle. Where do I route the valve under the radiator cap? Bear in mind I've purchased nice M&H hoses and I don't want to have to cut them up :(

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
