ABS unit will not turn off

Recommended Posts

So i was just driving along and my abs warning light goes on, gave the brakes a few testing activations and they worked so that's a bonus, but upon turning the car off, the abs unit/pump thing stays on. Full bore. Nothing short of yanking the battery fixes this (as I don't know what fuse to pull as it's in japanese).

  • Is it fucked?
  • Is there anything I can try to remedy this
  • which fuse do I pull? :D

97 jdm wrx wagon.

Hopefully somebody's awake...:P

Give the ABS pump a tap. Sounds like a sticking relay. It will drain your battery pretty quick if you leave it.

Yeah it's sitting with the battery unplugged atm so as to not do what everyone else with this problem on the internet did haha.

By 'tap' do you mean grab a wrench and tap the side/top of the pump with it? Just checking before I go whacking things :P

Yup, just need to shock the relay into releasing. Start with light taps and work up to bigger. Maybe use a piece of wood so you don't damage the pump.

It kind of works, turned it mainly off but was still making a little bit of noise, if I hit it again it goes off for about 2 seconds and then starts up again (albeit to a much lesser extent than before)...should I hit it harder? ;D

There's 2 relays on the driver's side. Pull 1 relay out at random and put back in. That will stop the asb pump. Take note of the relay. If it does it again. Take out same or other relay and work relay which is the dud. Replace one or both with bought one (~$80) or from wreckers.

I can only see one relay? :S

F*ck I've fallen victim to the same problem but now my battery's dead (5am in the morn, just b4 I start work). So have to fork out for new one.... So where exactly are these two relay's are they right behind the dash on the side above the fuse box or are they in the engine bay?

What causes this sort of problem?

Update: I'm lazy so I've just left it unplugged. Plugged it back in and it doesn't run full bore anymore, score. However I'm now getting the ABS light on again even after clearing ecu. Attempted to work out how to get a code from it to no avail, as I cannot find what this picture is talking about :S

Does my car use this system and some muppet has done something to my cables, or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Cheers...

Edit: Upon resetting ecu, the abs light goes away until I go above 10km/h or so, reading the manual they keep mentioning something like this. Don't have to brake or anything to make it come back...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
