can powder coating handle the heat from calipers?

Recommended Posts

tried a search on this one no luck.

Looking at powder coating some 4 pot calipers..........been told I mite want to use proper caliper heat paint instead because the powder coating can't handle the temp.........is this true?

Any1 running powder coated 4 pots and had issues with heat?

Na bro, it would burn off or melt. You would need to get them ceramic coated.

It would be alot easier to use the duplicolor kit though. They turn out real nice and have the same sorta look as powdercoating.

Make sure whatever you use can handle 3-400 degrees. I have some temp sensors that mount on the outside of my calipers and they have seen 200 degrees on the outside alone. And I imagine rotors are seeing double that.

You want engine paint for your manifold. The stuff that handles 1000deg C. Ripco have it.

That caliper paint is the best youll find. Put it on all of my cars bar the wrx which i used black spray can caliper paint with white enanmel paint for the lettering airbrushed on.

It all depends on who does it as the brembos over in europe are powder coated. But yeah could be best to opt for the caliper paint.

I dont think they will be powdercoated, but there is other types of coating that could be used. When powdercoat goes on it needs static electricity to stick to the metal before being heated where it forms a hard layer that is quite thick so that alone would mean the pistons wouldn't fit back in and if you masked off the areas around the pistons and brake lines it will peal off because of the raised lip you would create by masking. On the other hand anodising would do the trick nicely but limited with colours and would require the pistons to be fully stripped down.

cheers yep I'm stripping them right down anyway and re-sealing them..........so thought I would look at paint/powdercoat options. I'll be getn them sandblasted to take off the scale. Painting with caliper paint looks the most cost effective option

Heres what one guy did...http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/1465942-how-powder-coat-rebuild-your-brake.html

the powder gets electrostaticly charged to the metal as is passes through the gun, the powder is then drawn to the earthed object. its is then cured at 210 degrees C for 10 minutes (metal temperature) as soon as it is cool enough to handle its ready to go. and its not that thick its about 80-100 microns if that. so its only a very fine lip.

and yes when it gets hot it does get soft but it wont come off as long as you dont go poking or proding it

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
