Brake Cooling

Recommended Posts

I sumbled across this pic this morning when looking at braces,

47b8db07b3127cce985484cbe33d00000045100A

Notice the piping directing air to the disc.

How effective would this be and do you think it would be worth the trouble?

I was wondering if it would melt being close to the exhaust.

Ofcourse it only affective if the opening of the pipe (the intake end) is in a prime location ie behind the open spot light cover or similar.

thoughts?

I was talking to the old guy at MM about doing that and he strongly recommended higher temperature pads instead... not sure why.

But I still think it'd be a good idea. The only problem I can see with doing it would be if you got a gulp of water through it and it hit one spot on the disc rapidly cooling just that patch but then again, the disc would be spinning so fast the water would hit most of it right?

I look forward to the discussion!

i guess if youre hitting that much water with the front of the car you're basicly driving through a ford, in which case the wheel would be half submerged anyway, so more water directly hitting the disc from all angles than going through the pipe?

Im going to try a few laps of ruapuna with and with out this mod and let you all know what happens.

Remembering my brakes arent award winning, but have never let me down yet it should be easy to see the difference if there is any.

I guess its all about intake placement and getting the tubing as stright and direct as possible.

any tips for intake placement?

I was just thinking behind the spotlight cover, then i can cover it up when its not needed.

In theory, its brilliant.

find something to take the rotor temp at the end of hot laps before and after - that will tell you.

would one of those lazer pointer temp guns be accurate enough?

could always just pipe one side and see what side of the car stopps first :D

When all of the heat paint on my S12's burned off....what temp was that?

/quote]

not hot enough!

the top one is about 640degs from memory.. mine all melted right off as well... so real hot.

i think the three are 450, 550, 650 degs or there abouts.

AP Thermal paints are;

•Green - Which changes to White at 430 degrees C

•Orange - Which changes to Buff at 560 degrees C

•Red - Which changes to White at 610 degrees C

Too much hotter than 600 degrees C and you will anneal Carbon Steel rotors so they will then be nice and soft even after cooling.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
