Hey all sorry for the noob question, but I'm just wondering what Oil should I use for my car, and how much of it? Oh and also type of oil filter.

Its a

Subaru Legacy RS 1996

2.0 TT

Automatic

Just bought it a few months ago, and its due for an Oil change and oil filter change.

Also would it be wise to just take the car and oil to a mechanic and get them to change it? Rather than bringing it to armstrong subaru or what not to do the change?

Cheers a bunch!

Oil change can be done yourself in under an hour with only 2 tools and a bit of patience.

+1 on BC5's choice of oil. Thats what i ran in mine

you need a socket the right size (i don't know off the top of my head, and maybe a oil filter wrench, i get filters from supercheap, maybe local subaru dealer if you want guine filters.

my car is 5l.... i ASSUME yours will be the same

Your tire iron will fit the sump plug bolt. And you need a filter wrench to remove the filter.

You'll need 4.5 litres of oil.

Go to your local Subaru parts vendor and ask for the filter and sump plug squash type washer.

Youll need;

At least 4.5liters of oil

An oil filter strap OR a 6inch square piece of non slip foam (makes undoing the filter a shitload easier)

17mm spanner for the sump plug

12mm spanner for the plastic under tray if yours is still fitted

A bucket to drain the oil into

Thats it

I'm not sure that is a good thing! You want the oil to not just lubricate and cool the engine, you want it to pick up any dirt to be deposited in the oil filter.

I agree that it is a nice feeling when the oil coming out looks almost exactly like the oil that went in though (my GTB is like that :)

hope someone added a Jack and jack stand!

or at least a deep ditch to park over....

NEVER get under a car with just your Scissor jack supporting the vehicle

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
