excessive hand brake travel

Recommended Posts

inside of the rear hubs you can wind the little bezel up, (make sure hand brake isnt on). do equal revolutions on both sides a few at at time and test the handbrake. Ideally a picture is best to explain where this is, but it has a gromet over the hole on the inside face of the hub. The little bezel is bronze coloured and has thick lugs on it. one way to tighten the other to loosen :)

its a 1/2h job max and will make your h/b as tight as new :)

shoes usually just getting worn or some cable stretch id guess.

correct handbrake is drum, and it would take some epic forgetting the hand brake and driving round on it to wear it out...

just put it somewhere flat and have a look for the bezels (little windy things) as described... you will get it noice and toight again promise ;)

if i CBF il try get your a picture coz its piss easy to adjust once you know where the thingy's are.

yeah shhhwwweeet azzz, just get me a picture so I have a good idea

go have a look yourself anyway.. you will find it.

its horizontally mounted, and its a barrel shaped thing with lugs on it (is how you wind it up or down) and iirc its bronze in colour. The hole to get to it is behind the axle so its easiest to get at from the rear.

Youl need a small flat blade or similar screwdriver to wind it.. its quite stiff.

Pic tomorrow.

drum on disc brakes? (or disk)

yup pix way better - and IIRC isnt there an "in-cabin" method?

no no no no.

de-adjust the handbrake cable inside the car with a 10mm socket.

adjust the clickers in the shoes until it drags and back off slightly

re-adjust cable in car to a good height.

this is the correct way to adjust any handbrake

what dont you understand about that sentence? you adjust the "adjustment" to spread the shoes onto the drum, to minimize travel. with a flat blade screwdriver.

haha didn't even know there was a different way... good thing that i've never had to adjust one on a car worth more than $500

We always set the drum adjuster to full tight so you can't turn the wheel, then back it off 5 clicks/notches. Then adjust any excess travel from the inside with the adjuster nut on the handbrake lever. The lever should travel 3 - 5 clicks max when you're done.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
