Hey team,

Good to see everything's back up and running (:

Ok..

For a few weeks, my 96 GT has been losing water and oil much faster than it should have been (I need to top up my radiator daily now)

Is there anything that could cause loss of both oil and water simultaneously?

Next, since January every now and then the engine revs will cut out while accelerating. Im pretty sure it only happens when revs are over 2k. The revs will come in and out to the point where i have to pull over because my max speed is 15km/h. Normally turning the engine off and starting again will fix this (temporarily) but sometimes not.

I have had a AFM CEL recently which i reset and didnt get again.

Any advice for me on all this? Approximate costs for replacement? Any replacement parts people are holding onto and want to get rid of?

Cheers team,

Nick

Ok, just checked and confirmed... CEL is 23 (AFM) and Power code is 16 (???)

Replace AFM

As for oil and water loss, at that rate it must be visable, if not take it in to be checked ASAP

It probably is but i am not sure where to check. Where are the most lilkely places for oil to be leaking from?

And also, are there any problems that could cause both oil and water to disappear fast? I ask because i started losing both at the same time and think they could be related.

Geeze i didnt realise it would be so hard to find a purple tag AFM. If only it was orange ;)

Common AFM failure is due to internal short on the shield plate

If you can spare the AFM for a few days send it to me and I'll look at it

I unplugged the AFM for a day or two because i read somewhere that the cutting out could be due to the AFM telling the ECU to inject less fuel, and that d/cing the AFM could force the ECU to use a 'default' level.

All this did is cause my car to stall on startup... as soon as i turned my key away from 'start'. Reconnecting it had it working better, but still rough. I think this engine has had its run and may need a replacement (after talking to a mechanic - but of course he would say that! ;D)

If it didnt become undriveable i would send it your way but... thats my luck. Got a quote for a new purple AFM and geeze.. steep @ 295.

coolant and oil loss at same time could be head gaskets blown and coolant and oil burning in the cylinders, any excessive smoke out exhaust?? and is the any oil in the header tank or cap??? could be a number of things, put some compressed air down the cylinders and see if the cooling system gets air bubbles in it!! if it does you may have a blown head gasket problem on the cylinders you are testing or some other problem and heads nead to come off and a good inspection of heads and bores needed plus your cylinder heads checked at a engine builders if no sign of head gasket been blown$$$$$$$$$, carry out a compression test to see if you have broken piston rings!!!! good luck ;D or if you dont feel you can handle all this take it to a good garage and have them check it out cos its only going to get worse till its to late full rebuild

also places for oil leaks normal are camshafts , crank front and rear seal, rocker cover gaskets, kidney plate at the rear of the engine block, head gaskets, you should be able to see these leak pretty easy if lossing quite a bit of oil hope this helps ;D

I had a similar cut out thing happening in my GTB when the headgaskets had blown. If you got it on boost with more that half throttle it would cut out violently. No problems with the AFM, engine probably didnt like trying to compress water.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
