B4 not cranking with BUZZING SOUND

Hi all,

This morning the car started fine with no probs. Went to repco and bought something and came back home. But just before I turned the engine off, the car started to lose power, misfire etc etc and light on the dashboard started to die away. So I quickly turned the car off. And when I tried to start the car, there is this quite audible buzzing sound (not the little buzzing sound the fuel pump makes just before starting the car) the starter motor won't even turn. Also the dashboard gauge light won't even turn on as well.

I've checked the battery and it's fine. I've tried another battery but the starter motor won't even turn and the loud buzzing sound is still there.

Seriously, 1 minute it's completely fine and the next minute the car won't even start at all..HELP!

Yup, checked the fuse box and there are no problems... I really have no idea wat's wrong.. this happend suddenly..

maybe a main relay is dead/dying. makes sense to go with the buzzing sound

Battery terminals all corroded and shagged?

switch the key on and check for battery voltage at the starter motor with a multimeter you should have about the same voltage as your battery + and - half a volt, if you have voltage take the starter motor out and hook the battery up to it with jumper leads (+ -) and use a bit of electrical wire to jump across and act a switch this will check the starter to see if it engages. ;D

also check you cables on your starter motor are not loose and connectors are clean, give them a scuff up with sand paper ;D

you shouldnt need key on but however you could use jump wire in place as you will certainly know if the pinion is throwing out or not

also you can get someone to crank the motor over and measure the voltage at the starter you should have about 10.5 volts on cranking

try tapping the starter motor solenoid on top of the starter motor while someone has the key in the crank postion as sometimes they jam up and this sometimes gets them going, if it does you need a new starter solenoid or starter

Your missing this. The ONLY thing that can affect all electrical circuits is either a shitty ground wire to the battery, or poor corroded terminals on the cars harness side.

Im guessing headlights wont turn on either?

is there a main relay which is needed to be on to allow power to everything else? could be a fault on this relay if there is one, like metioned here
