Upgrading reversing lights

Upgrading reversing lights... Whats the rules for upgrading these?

My ones on the Alto are piddly.. I can not see where Im reversing at night.

I want brighter ones so I dont end up backing into the letter box or retaining wall etc.

as long as they work only in reverse I dont think there is any legalities

I have upgraded my ones by using a 55 watt halogen bulb ( they make a specific one with a bayonet fitting for beacons) but u may try some of the LED setups as well

You are only allowed 1 pair, also.

IE 2 pairs (4 lights) is too many

I still havnt done any thing about it :

I may try up grading the bulbs 1st since It will be the cheapest option.

The reversing lens is only approx 50x50mm square on each light.

Other wise I mite end up wiring up some other lights.

When I brought my Legacy (first NZ owner, fresh of the boat) it had an additional reversing light - which was attached by the rear muffler on the left hand side of the rear bumper.

Looked ugly as fark but I tell you what - it certainly helped when backing down long driveways at night!

Old rally cars from the 60s used to have added reversing lights so they can see where they were reversing. I'm pretty sure as long as you have less then 2, you can go resonably nuts, as its not something that is contantly on.

im pretty sure you can have what type of lights you like on there within reason.

I know a few friends with 4wds have on/off rear spots operated from within cabin for shooting and such like.

This might be different but in principle it seems that aslong as they arent constantly on or only engage at certain situations that arent likely to affect other road users you can have anything on there within reason.
