forester sti upgrade

well some info on what can be done :)

1997/1998 stb forester manual. (does not apply to auto or ttb forester)

a good upgrade for a standard stb forester

1. v3/v4 sti 3 plug ecu.

2. v3/v4 yellow 440cc injectors.

3. v3/v4 orange sticker afm ( air flow meter)

4. remember that sti of that model run a standard 16psi,so you will need a boost tap or electronic boost controller.

5. you could also use a v3/v4 sti waste gate actuator

6.you will have to switch out the old intake pipe after the afm. as the sti afm is larger.

this can be done by sourcing the v3/v4 intake and air box.

aswell as using an aftermarket intake, such as zerosports, hks and so on.

ok so thats a good 20 to 30 kw increase on the forester. :)

Things to remember,

ecu is on the passengers side floor under the kick panel(where you put your feet under glove box)

NEVER HAVE BATTERY CONNECTED WHEN PUTTING ECU IN OR TAKING OUT!!!!

stb fuel rails are the same as v3/v4 sti.

DO NOT RUN sti afm and ecu with standard grey injectors!!!!!!

(YOU WILL BLOW IT UP WHEN IT LEANS OUT AT 16 PSI)

If i have missed anything please post up the details.

Please remember that if you are unsure on how to do this, contact a mechanic!

Happy cruising 8)

Quick question, would using STi ECU, but still on 14PSI make a difference?

I'm wanting to buy another STi ECU, but cant afford injectors and afm just yet. So would there actually be a power increase even 13/14psi?

14psi, just means you're not getting as much power, nothing actually wrong with it i think. And yes, the STi ECU is very different, driving with one is good fun. But you'll want to get 16-18 PSI in there pretty quick.

And yeah, i'm curious on the auto fozzy. Don't tell me they get that 1-plug-wonder ECU than the Auto GTB's do. I will laugh if that's the case :D I sometimes wonder if they did that just to spite them. "Hah, no STi conversions for YOU"

I'm happy about that, now just gotta save up and keep a sharp eye on trademe.

Are the pistons and gaskets etc ok with the increase in boost?

yep same engine as the v/3 v/4 as far as i can remember with the old forums.

mine has run 22 psi without hassle.

you will get some blowby from the breather on the drivers side

catch can will cure that. :)

the standard ecu will go to 14.97 psi or one bar. with boost tap or ebc.

I am unsure as to weather the sti ecu would make a difference.

I myself wouldnt do it unless i had all the sti gear :)

I mentioned it because the t/tb is an aussie/NZ edition and thought they may have just toned it down to meet emission standards. It's probably got all the same parts as an s/tb but needs a different ecu or remap?

All this is pure speculation, I don't have a clue, just guess someone else might.

i would hazzard at a guess that if it does have the same 3 plug ecu, some of the pinouts would be transmission

related?

it would be interesting to see if you could get an eprom burnt for the auto if the ecu is a single plug. :-\

well matt you had be different mate ;D

Well the auto plugs would probably take up empty slots on the ECU right? So as long as you do a manual conversion first, you're sweet right? Or is there more to it than that. It's always worth a shot at least.

The GTB's 3 plug was totally compatible, everything related to the TT was on a blank plug on the STi ECU.

Yeah I'll definitely give it a go in the future, though first on the upgrade cards for my weapon of mass DeForestation is ripping everything that lives under the wheel arches out and replacing it with Version 7 gear as soon as I can source the said Version 7 gear and money ::)

is yours the 3 plug?

is the 2001 a 3 plug?

if it is yes, however you would still need to upgrade afm and injectors to suit the ecu. :)

dont know much about the 98 onwards, would pay to check the ecu numbers to see that it is an sti ecu :)

Yeah, weird. That first one pictured has 3 plugs, yet 4 sockets. These are the later ECU's for the Phase-II engines such as in the V5 and 6. When i talk about 3 plug's atleast, i'm refering to the yellow socket 3 plug pictured above. These are the 96-98 ish impreza/forrester/GTB ecu's.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
