Who's heard of or got one of these in their Impreza?

I saw one on TM a while back (now I cant find it, typical) and it took my interest for a project I'm working on.

It was definitely from a GC/GF Impreza, and was selectable between front wheel drive and four wheel drive.

I must have been dreaming when I saw this box then :P

It was definitely a manual box, looked like an average TY752 but the rear housing was slightly different.

It wasn't a front wheel drive box either, this one had an output housing. I'm starting to think this could have been a dual range box and the guy selling it may not have known it was permanent 4wd, and was assuming it was selectable between 2wd and 4wd.

Thanks for your input anyway guys.

Yup my 1800cc Legacy is fitted with 4WD on demand.

Handy if you get stuck somewhere.

You do not use it on tarmac.

It has no center diff like brumby so is locked in 50/50 split when in 4wd.

If you use it on tarmac it binds up badly. Its fine to use on shingle/ loose terrain under foot.

It can be a nussence sometimes cause the button stays stuck on.

Ive got a 2wd/4wd push button gearbox with hi and low ratio. It come out of i think a BC3 1.8 legacy wagon.

I use it in a BC5 gt with v2 wrx motor and push type clutch. The 1.8 box has a lower low ratio than the 2.2 box

so allows me to climb up and over bigger and steeper hills without too much effort.

Very interesting...

So how does it work? Is there some type of clutch next to the centre diff to disengage the rear output shaft?

you guys are onto it, 50/50 lock with sliding hub in the centre diff. its operated by a electric switch which in turn operates either one of two electric vacume solenoids, once switched on/off the solenoid allows manifold vacume through it to pull a diapdram in or out, the diaphram is connected to a cable which operates a lever on the side of the centre diff. So in one position its Fwd and the other its 4wd

Yup like say a hilux,no differential so no slippage while turning between front and rear axles, but saying that I use to run my leone in 4wd on the road all the time and just flick it in and out of 4wd periodically

Which leone are you talking about dude? Are you meaning your RX? or the next of leone shape?

I used to put my brumby in 4wd low on tarmac only on the straight parts up steep hills. Clutch was a bit shot and slipped badly

Some of the 4wd on Demand omega gboxs where different and did allow you to run in 4wd on tarmac. But think that was on some of the odd ball JDM versons ive seen.

I had one guy come look at my old brumby earlyer in the year. I was telling him that you dont use the 4WD on the tarmac.

He then told me that must had been why he had blown up a few gboxs etc on his one.

Cheers for your input guys, that clears up my question I think.

I was hoping there would be a box I could build up so that I could select just FWD for use around town (for economy reasons) and then select 4WD for when the need called, but if there is no differential between the front and rear when in 4WD then that wont be such a good idea for tarmac use.

I wonder also what the centre diff arrangement is like in the auto boxes, how is the drive disconnected from the rear?

No centre diff in them so to speak, uses clutch packs to drive rear

You will fine that the fuel saving would be minimal as you are still carrying around the weight of the rear diff and drive train,in my mind if it in there then it dont get a free ride :)

That's a good point.

I know a guy that rolls around in his auto BC5 RS with the FWD fuse (in or out, I cant remember) and it uses a lot less fuel than my manual BD5 RS single turbo around town, so it just got me thinking...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
