EZ30R - Who's got one, who has info on them ?

I got a Blitzen6 as my last legacy suffered from the fateful failure of the primary turbo and couldn't be bothered with that again (just bought a house so I couldn't stretch to get the single turbo GT-B of the latest model) and settled on a Blitzen6.

Basically no one I know who owns a subaru knows much about them except gives me a funny look and goes "You have a 6 cylinder boxer engine?!?".

Any help appreciated, all I can find is the japanese site for the blitzen6, in well, japanese (it's more marketing than any useful information)

Thanks in advance :)

Or perving at firemen fighting fires in Melbourne...

Sounds like a nice car you've got Drewpy, can't be that common?

will it fit in my.............

hur hur

old skool flat 6's (that funny shape Acyclone?) are bigger than the new ones BY HEAPS and the newer (all listed above) are almost the exact same dimensions as a normal EJ20

Yep, and the SVX too. what's the old school one... an EG33? I've heard it's got the same bore and stroke as the EJ22

sorryy, getting OT there.

Boxer 6s Rulzes :D

subaru did 6s since late 1987 as 2.7L , Then they did 3.3L then 3.0L and now 3.6L.

EG33 is based on EJ22 but there are differences. You can not use EJ22T pistons in them

Definitely a rare thing amongst the other BH Blitzen's around, but more common in the latest Blitzens ?

I'm happy with it, didn't want to go auto, but had a few things to consider and the way it performs (never free wheels, shifts are nice and toit and holds/does a lot of engine breaking)

Definitely consider a manual conversion though.

Mucho Gracias! Very helpful, from what I could decipher I thought I had the EZ30R, but now I know the EZ30D is the model in there, it does clear up a few things.

Up against the turbo fella's, it holds its own quite nicely. The pure NA factor keeps me up with them until I'm guessing about 120-130.

Easy way to check is look under the bonnet. If you have a big shittily cast aluminium intake - its an EZ30D

If its black and plastic - its an R

If that's the case, I definitely have a black plastic intake (I know that from my inspections of the engine bay)

Other easy way to tell is to read the little plaque on the passenger side strut tower.

;D

Heh, I've not had the car long and I've been too busy at home to check her out 100% like I did with my last legacy.

I will check her out tonight, was saving it up for this weekend when I'm going to do some photos on Sunday night with my other mate who has a 2000 BH Blitzen.

what model year is the car? Is it a BH or BP/BL shape?

The cast aluminium intakes have a black plastic cover with H6 stamped on it.

Would love to know what youve got so i can get my facts straight! lol

Keltic, if you want a cable throttle, go get a Falcon one like mine, they are uber big. then all you need to do is get a Bosch TPS and you are away laughing. You know you want to :)

Drewpy? you dont know the size of your throttle body do you? because i know that the cable throttle bodies that came with the EZ30's are smaller than a midgets... Keltic can probably confirm by having a look at his...

*is completely jealous of the manual conversion*

So, since it's chain driven, what's the replacement time on the motor instead of Cambelts ?

The chain is intended to last over 250,000km......however the chain tensioners seem to fail earlier. Ive heard of 2 cases of the tensioners getting sloppy and making a ticking noise.

The chain and sprockets arent too rediculously priced. And if you change the chain yourself i think it worked out around $1500.

Hard part is the 120 different sized screws that hold the cover on.

Keep your oil clean and i dont think youd ever need to worry about it in the time your likely to own the car

That be nice not having to touch timming chains for that long

What I would like is a hybrid motor based on EG33 but cam chain and verable valves and better pump and lighter. I would Be happy with that ;D

But sadly i dont have the monney to build something as fancy as that :(

ehh????

hows this?

IIRC A lot of the svx guys are running EJ22T internals?

Same bore/stroke cyl design...

Because the combustion chamber is different on EG33... Running EJ22T pistons will run very very low compression. more in detail down below

The stroke and bore are identical to an EJ22. Now the differences are in the pistons and the heads. The EG33 pistons have a raised portion which increases the CR above a 2.2. We (meaning a couple of us on the board) crunched the #'s and did measurements. There is a reason LAN contracted CP to make the pistons for our engines instead of using the much cheaper alternative of 2.2l pistons. Even the 9.5:1 2.2l pistons would drop an EG33 down to 8.0:1 CR which is too low for what most people want to do. The Eagle H-beam rods can be ordered through Eagle, just make sure you ask them to give you a weight matched set of 6. The crank and piston pin bores as well as rod length are identical to the 2.5 and 2.2l's

Tom

Every one I know that are running F.I. either running Stock Hi compression pistons ( running low boost or running Custom pistons thats done thru LAN

The sad thing? i know exactly who you mean by lan ;)

Cheers for clarifying that tho.

Hmmm. might have to CC the heads when i start shopping for rebuild parts.

From my recollection - the heads dont seem to be raised any more than an EJ20, which im guessing has a similair crown to the Ej22ts.

Although 8:1 cr could be fun... 2bar? :D

I know I if I had the cash i would get block sleved and then bore them out more. But thats would be so expensive. and would have to be careful in caser the liners desided to move a lil bit.

Theres also a problem With the blocks over heating... and thats in Stock form not turboed or supercharged.

They do not Know why it does that. Mite be the Water pump not pumping enought liters. Or it mite be not anought cooling around the back of the cylinders.

They still doing reserach into that

hmm - been talking to a guy at work, says that if you run a decent oil cooler - can stop most things overheating, as oil generally gets everywhere that water doesnt.

Between that, and an alloy RX7 radiator (same thickness as some I/C :)) it shoooould be ok.

Right now tho, the only way i can possibly get the damn thing to overheat would be to put a match to it, and its tempting.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
