Centre diff locking for RWD how to by Uncle Darth

Firstly this is a how to dealing with welding a centre diff BUT allowing the retaining of the front axles so to make it easier to pass a WOF without to many questions.

Now for the warnings I take no responsibility about any damage done to the vehicle or person whom under takes this mod .

You will need to take the centre diff out of the gearbox, this can be done with gearbox in car :)

This is the centre diff as it should look (this one is from a 93ish GT so yours may look different)

Dismantle the centre diff by removing the circlip I would also remove all bearings if u wish to reuse them,

You should now have 3 bits the carrier, the drive flange and the viscous coupling, u will need to cut part of the viscous coupling of to negate the front drive

After some measurements I figured out that a length of 20mm would work best

Cut

The 2 parts now, a wee clean up and looks good I used a 4" grinder with a 1mm cutting disk on it,I would suggest having it parted of in a lathe but mine is only a wee hobby lathe

All back together and welded at the spider gears

Put back in and go do a some skids :)

Just one lil thing from my experience with rwd'n mine, I had to use an old shaft from a gearbox to align all the gears in the center diff while it was being welded, the first center diff i got done without this and it wouldn't fit back into the gearbox.

See now this is an interesting and oddly cheap avenue to getting a rwd turbo car. But how do the rear diff and axles hold up? I have heard of people converting to a skyline diff but now cannot find the information

r160 axles dont like it at all I can tell you that much haha

Hi after reading this thread keen to try out rwd :D

but I was wondering can I use any centre diff out of any gearbox, and not have to worry about centre diff ratio matching then swap my original back in when I want to.

No, you\'ll need a matching centre diff if you want a spare, they won\'t all fit. What car have you got?

Hi I have v4 wrx ra

4.44 final drive

Damn I was hopeing to just get a broken gearbox and pull the diff out weld the spiders and cut the front drive shaft coupling so without driving the front wheels the rate the diff spun wouldn\'t mater.

Is there a reason this wouldn\'t work?

Is the spline count different?

Sorry I\'m not to on to it with diffs and stuff :(

Gearbox code ty752vb5ba

Need to check but isnt that code a DCCD box? I wouldnt be fucking around with it just wind the wheel. If you want more driftpig then you shouldnt have an RA.

Yeah I know shouldn\'t be doing skids in a wrx but I bought the car as a toy and skids and drifts are fun ;D

I think worse case diffs and axels are pretty cheap and just as likely blow the motor on the track as doing a burnout so yeah just an idea at the moment :)

yeah pushing your rs 4km in he dead of night after snapping one wasnt that fun

Out of curiosity what were you doing drifting or launching or doing burnouts as in sorta trying to gauge what I am able to get away with?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
