Fords Focus RS has a similar thing to channel sound into the cabin, called a "sound symposer" iirc ? Never been a fan of the focus rs but have been following the development of the toybaru, gotta say the subaru version seems like it'll be a great little car.

maybe it's a way to channel exhaust fumes back UP through the engine and take out people who try and steal the car, before purchasing, with a control device that would also take out thieves....
