Dont flame me just yet, i have heard so many different opinions regarding this topic, from yes it absolutely destroys your AFM, to it makes no difference.

what is your experience with this?

i have had a pod on for about 6 months now with no problems.

That depends on what model of car you have.

In saying that eventually the pod filter poor filtration (with poorer than factory anyway) will kill your AFM. Coupled with an oiled model pod, the oil comes through and sits on the hotwire types and damages them.

The biggest killer of AFM's with pod filter are the vibrations, especially with the later model Leggies or Impreza's...

I replaced my afm twice after changing to a pod filter. Threw code 23 once and the second time it didnt give out a code at all.but ran like a pig. After chucking a spare afm on it was sweet as. Have now gone back to standard air box setup feels alot more solid bolted in nice and snug

yeah, if you're wondering if you want to put a pod in, I think you should just stick with the airbox and stick a new panel filter in. Google "snorkectomy" or "snorkus delete" if you still have the stock intake.

i have the standard K&N filter on there, like this one on a 1997 GTB limited

is this the oiled type you mentioned above? think it vibrates slightly tho sometimes makes a weird resonance type sound at certin rpm.

am leaning towards reverting to stock after reading these posts, but i love the sound.

I used a K&N on mine ages ago for about a year was perfectly fine until I cleaned and reoiled, then it killed two afms. So in my mind k&n are throw away after they get dirty lol.

i already have a poddy on there, but still have the standard airbox at home somewhere, guess i just have to shell out for a K&N panel filter as well aye? would the oil from a K&N panel filter not do the sme dage as a pod filter tho?

There is the issue, people who over oil there Oiled filter's/K&N.

I've run a K&N Pod filter in everyone of my Legacy's and never had an AFM failure that could be traced back to hot wire contamination.

it was told at southern motor court once that they 'kill the afm because they let too much airflow through'

i wanted to laugh but was polite

from what i've seen, and its been mentioned above, failure is from vibration and poor filtering/oil

so i've switched back to the normal airbox and panel filter setup, but have got a silicone pipe feeding directly into the airbox from above the wheel well. i will post some pics when i get a chance. what do you guys think of this mod? i have blocked the other holes, so in theory its sucking in cold air instead of warm engine bay air. it does seem to run better but that may be my imagination.

what do you think?

TT + POD = FAIL

yeah iv seen so many TT with pod filters shit the air flow meter, as posted vibration and poor pod design/material

the k&n panel filter in the factory air box is the win. with the snorklectomy being a great addition.

if u want a pod filter do a single turbo conversion :) LOLZ ( u no u want to )

hmmmm, apparently im going to need a pod to run my front mount, as the piping comes down past the afm, and the standard airbox gets in the way, but i dont want to run a pod, i have before and it killed two afms in one week.

any ideas how i could get around that?

Use a non oiled one (Apexi do one) and brace it really well. Should be ok. Cold air box it too of course.

I have had the car on the dyno with moded airbox and filter.

We then unbolted the airbox and ran the car with no filter at all.

There was no difference in performance

try driving around with no filter and see how long your engine lasts :)

i think the car can cope with 10 seconds on a clean room dyno without a filter to check for intake restrictions - lol

yeah just wanted to clear up any misconceptions that an air filter is not necessary. :)

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
