Police are only so many eyes, the public do need to help them.

E.g: my mates 4wd got stolen 4 weeks ago, we spotted it the next day but the guys in it took off when they saw my mate.

3 weeks later we find it. it had been parked on some random street, locked and left intact. we talked to several houses, one of which it was parked directly in front of and it had been there for 3 weeks. They said they thought it was funny being there so long but did nothing.

Personally I would have called up about a car sitting in front of my house for 1 week with out moving.

There is definately an element of the car scene out of order - these FTP type muppets need sorted out imo.

to me just reading into those facts and speculating alil i'd say theres a couple possible situations

shes deep in some sort of crime ring todo with stealing high performance cars, they know shes been charged and is in police custody and they left her a message to say if you tell your dead, or possibly they were looking for something that ties them to the crime.Whos to say she didn't meet these people while working and has been working for them since her time off or even being supported by one of the crims perhaps its a possible love story and shes tied into it somehow. Hence the reason she is reluctant to give information.Surely if you are giving your police uniform to someone you know a contact point for them, local hang outs,phones that can be track ect

or the probably more obvious option would be the evo drivers mates have come around and done some damage knowing shes involved and where she lives

an accurate description of a couple of the cars followed by a couple hours of the closest video cameras would probably give an answer pretty quick.Easier said than done.Also an accurate description of the thugs who were seen fleeing in the evo a few weeks back would give you clues

I can sort of see where Slidesector is coming from.

You have to be on the receiving end of a shit crime like burglary or car theft, then watch as the Police catch up with them, and they get put through the courts and come out the other end with a pathetic punishment like Home Detention or PD on the weekend.

So I guess the issue is not so much the Police, even though I sometimes think they should get their priorities sorted, but more our weak, pathetic justice system that lets criminal scum get away with this all the time. Needs a massive overhaul IMO, dont see why they cant simply say right, theft of a car - 5 years no parole.

Think about how much it costs to house and feed that prisoner for 5 years and you have your answer.

Better ways of funding there "care" would be a smarter option. I don't see why we can't chain them all up and have them doing road works or making train tracks like in the good ole days. something along the lines of if you don't work 8hours you don't get your dinner would be good motivation. I don't see why they simply lock them up in a cell and let them rot. almost everyone has a skill of some sort or can be useful in some way.

I'd much rather see more money being spent educating people that stealing, murdering, assaulting, raping etc... is bad, rather than spending more on jails. If it's put in your head from a young age how bad these things are, you're not likely to do it in the future.

I do agree with prisoners should do more labour to earn their keep/release. Slave labour, get's stuff done. However human right's activists will call inhumane. But some people are so broken in the head, being in a cell is safer for them and us.

For this cop who supposedly lent her uni form to one of the thieves, she should be sacked and trailed like a regular person. Also for the rest of her life, any job she applies for, she has to tell the employer of what she did. I doubt she'd ever get employment again and that's her own fault.

The Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004 will apply from 29 November 2004.

What conditions do I have to meet?

You must meet all conditions in section 7 of the Act (a summary is set out below) before your convictions can be withheld. The Act should be consulted for full information.

You must have:

no convictions within the last 7 years;

never been sentenced to a custodial sentence e.g. imprisonment, corrective training, borstal;

never been ordered by a Court following a criminal case to be detained in a hospital due to your mental condition, instead of being sentenced;

not been convicted of a "specified offence" (e.g. sexual offending against children and young people or the mentally impaired);

paid in full any fine, reparation, or costs ordered by the Court in a criminal case;

never been indefinitely disqualified from driving under section 65 Land Transport Act 1998 or earlier equivalent provision.

How will I know if I meet the conditions?

The Act creates an automatic scheme - therefore, it will not be necessary to apply for a "clean slate".

Once it comes into force, you can request a copy of your criminal record from the Privacy Assistant of the Ministry of Justice to see if you meet the conditions. If you are eligible under the scheme your convictions will be concealed. If your convictions remain on your criminal record, you do not meet the eligibility conditions.
