ive herd around the net that the d rev rsk's have a problem with pinking when used with poor fuel, my brothers just got one and is pinking in the mid range on 98. anyone got a fix for it besides ecutek?

You should be able to get the timing retarded by 5 degrees through a Subaru dealer. Try an ECU reeset first.

This model runs to much timing for our fuel :(

As stated above see your dealer to have timing curve adjusted by 5 deg

(note you will nedd to have this reset every time the battery is disconnnected or goes flat and also every time ecu reset done)

I take it the timing can only be moved with the subaru scan tool? im a tech at a mitsi dealer and we have a generic scanner for other things than mitsi's, guess ill have a look if it supports the function. So the timing change is not flashed into the ecu memory?

The generic OBDII scan tools only read std OBDII fault codes and match them to a fault description in the scanner's database (dependent of model/manufacturer).

To change timing, you'll need to be able to write new maps/configuration to the factory. Dunno much about the Subaru Select monitor, but guessing it has the ability to write to the ECU as well as perform std OBD stuff. In theory you could do it all yourself with the right software and something like OpenECU, but there's a fair bit of skill and knowledge required before you can go fiddling with the ECU maps as raw tables.

It's a base timing offset

You don't actually change the main map, just the base timing

I have only seen Subaru Monitor been able to do this ( and requires access coded of OE91 )

Yeah, mine has the same problem. Some days are worse then others.

Ichi Ban, we had a brief discussion about this on the old forum. If I remember correctly you had a way to do it?

Also, would we really retard it 5 degrees or just a couple?

I was going to get it dyno tuned at Torque Performance but I just can't justify the coin at the moment (I've been trying to justify it to myself since January!) so if there is a way to lessen it so that it runs better overall that'd be great.

Haven't noticed it in mine, though its an NZ-new GTB so perhaps was done from new? What I do notice is the times I've had to run it on 95 you can feel the ECU pulling timing and boost back, especially on a hot day.

domestic market (jap import) different spec to NZ spec (however NZ spec will pink on 95 at light throttle)

yeah im totally aware of the limits of generic scanners, i had a look today with our one and it does support a few functions but timing adjustment was not one. i reset the ECU and it seems to be better and has started to relearn its idle etc. Anyone know how to clear SRS codes on these things, we were fitting an alarm in the weekend and pulled a connector ( not a yellow srs one ) and its bought up a code and the scanner wont com with the SRS ecu!

How different? A Subaru dealer tech looked at the VIN plate and tried to tell me it was a Jap import...

A mechanic mate who works on a lot of Subarus commented on how quick mine felt (and the lack of VOD) but I'd just assumed it was the same as Jap-spec cars.

Why you have VIN plate on NZ new car?

If sold NZ new it may well have been complied via SNZ as it was a domestic spec new car.

Different MY cars have different turbo's and different ECU maps

What are the first 2 digits of the the 17 digit VIN #

will either be 7A or JF

my '98 RSB is NZ new (I have all original sale doco) But it was imported fully built up. It has a VIN plate, and appears to have been imported by SNZ and sold as a NZ new vehicle.

However, it has the JDM dash (180k speedo etc) Jap warnings on the sunvisor and an NZDM grille badge.

I know this is OT, and apologies, but was the BD5 RSB sold in any great number domestically, or were they all imported special order by SNZ?

They did hold some RSB's in stock but not in any great numbers. the only reason for the vin plate is the car is a JDM intended model and doesnt get a factory 17 digit chassis number to suit the LTSA's rules here. same deal with all EVO's sold new by MMNZ previous to VIII, as some VIII's+IX's are austrilasian spec. All early X's are full jdm spec cars. back on topic i found a plug not properly connected causing the SRS light and lack of com. and we found that if you make it pink it will react but pretty slowly, guess the ecu is programed to live on the edge and sometimes over it.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
