Subaru B4 Steering light on

Hello everyone I am new to this forum great tech info and help I need some help with my 99 B4 the steering light has come on I seem to have lost the assist at low speeds ie parking lot maneuvers. High speeds seems ok the pump has been replaced any idea how to turn off the light or diagnose the concern thanks eveyone

Have you checked you fluid level?

yes fluid level is fine had the system flushed twice the green sterring light is on continous. was told possible steering switch fault but mine does not have one on the rack it is located on the back of the pump. Replaced the pump as a unit light is still on hard to assist at slow speeds

Could be your speed sensor has failed.

CV boots all good? If the drivers one goes it can flap around and destroy the wiring going to the power steering solenoid. It'll be two grey wires that aren't polarity sensitive.

are you talking about the sensor on the steering rack? mine does not have one there it is located on the backof the steering pump I did have a cv boot tear at one time but was a long time ago

A sensor failure will throw a code (check engine light) as it won't sense your road speed it will not allow pump activation to assist your steering.

i had the same problem and i just replaced a lil box with a circut board inside of it on the left hand side under the steering column i replaced that and my steering kight went off and had my power steering back just an idea

Yeah but apparently he doesn't have EPS

(no sensor on rack)

So his fault can only be rack or pump (unlless fluid pissing out of hoses)

But It will have a variable electronic servo like yours because he has a check light !!

yea found the issue with the outa casing on the power was sliced and kept earthing it self out it and frying it

Prove the fact the electricity runs on smoke !!

Cause when the smokes all gone it not work anymore

I have proved this many times !

DC and AC both the same but the smoke with AC is after a huge bang / a pretty light show and a huge turd

lol i wasn't getting a bang i was just getting smoke and a nasty smell in my car for a couple of days

so guys is there a way on diagnosing the steering light should I replace the so called black box on the steering colum?

You need to check continuity of the rack solenoid first

If thats ok check fuses, then replaced steering ECU

where is the steering ECU?

as for the rack solenoid I can't seems to see any there

only sensor is located on the back of the pump like a metal plate with sensor attached
