subaru ticking sound after forged rebuild (reposting)

posting this time in the engine section... can any1 tell me if a ticking sound is normal from a subaru just after it's had a forged internals engine rebuild 5000ks ago? after we took it for a test drive, we could hear a ticking sound from then engine inside the car. the guy said it's because the engine has forged pistons etc.. is this true right? really like the car but dont wanna buy one that has engine problems. any help would be good.

forged will knock during cold start, but woll smooth out when engine is warmed up.

Does the tick increase with revs? or dissappear?

Guy in video seemed to diagnose his tick as an exhaust leak,

im not sure if its the same sound, all i know is it is a form of ticking sound. i only started hearing the tick after the test drive. he said its because forged engine. im gonna go test drive the car tomorrow or the day after and will listen to it again and see if it happens again. if worst comes, i will probably go get a pre purchast inspection done. but i just wanted to see if any1 knows what could cause a ticking sound from engine once its warm. just hoping its not the tick of death i read on forums.

I think it depends on the bore size?

Some do it more than others.

Your best bet is to get the car checked by a reputable garage/mechanic such as Tony (RDL) he'll tell you if it's normal or not.

But ya some brands of pistons seem to be louder than others but in general aftermarket forgeds have a bit of a tick over OEM stuff.

yes im i chch. im gona test drive the car maybe tomorrow or day after. i was thinking if i can still hear the ticking sound, i would take it to vtnz and get a mechanical inspection report.

i will also give tony a call tomorrow and see what he says

forged pistons sound like more of a knock than a tick,maybe ugly lifters.id be wary definately get it checked,the amount of people i see selling wrxs and stis not long after a rebuild on trademe for not much more than what theyve just paid to fix it makes me think theres alot of mechanics that dont know what theyre are doing with these cars

I had a slight tick from my forgies. Nothing to worry about. I wouldn't take it to vtnz. They aren't Subaru mechanics. Take it to someone who knows their shit with subies

i looked at the receipt, the engine work was done at caraid 66. http://www.caraid.co.nz/ . judging from their photos, they seem to knows bit about engine builds. i think i might go see if the ticking happens again. if not go to vtnz, maybe i should go check out crowesport or rdl and see what they say>

i have owned a couple of subarus , and each time i go to buy one, i take them to STUBARU just off wordsworth street, hes a real good guy, an seems to really know his stuff, as he has worked with subarus for years, ask for stu, an he will check the car over for you, for a cash price of around $50 id imagine, but he seems to know his stuff whenever i have had a problem with my rexs..
