JDM Bugeye STI - uppipe/downpipe vs turbo lag?

Hiya,

Got a 2001 V7 STI wagon ...

If i replace catted uppipe and downpipe with non catted, how much will turbo lag reduce? Will it come on spool earlier (atm not much going on before 3500rpm) ...

Where to find/buy/how much for uncatted uppipe/downpipe?

your up pipe shouldn be catted - it has a flexi but leave it alone - its a good thing.

Putting in a decatted downpipe how ever is a good idea, and will lower boost threshold by 200ish rpm.

" (atm not much going on before 3500rpm)" - is quite a subjective thing - get someone who knows subaru's to give it some poke to make sure its operating as it should.

On my V7 STI the best thing I did to increase spool was to get the car tuned by a reputable tuner, car feels a whole lot more torquey down low which helps the car feel not as boring off boost.

Changing downpipe to a 3" Divorced one will give you much better spool. As will opening up the intake a bit, IMO.

I'm still running the original up-pipe (the only thing in the exhaust that's still factory) and I've finally reached the point where it's almost too spooly.

Down pipe and a tune will get very good results

Have done a few and always gets good results

If Ur v7 is Jap import then won't Hav cat in up pipe

ahh good to know the uppipe uncatted (have been reading on US sites you see)

the downpipe it is then - apart from waiting on forums where to get one?

I'm in Dunedin and there is no way to go to Chch for a tune so either

1) don't change downpipe

2) change downpipe and don't tune

3) use tactix / romraider and do self tune (is that do-able?)

u can change and not tune

wont get the most out of tghe pipe but will be better running than stock
