what disks to buy

Recommended Posts

So needing to buy new disks and pads, after looking around and noticing many different brands, also cross drilled, slotted, who makes the best rotor for dollar spent.

will use the car for track days where possible and wife will still need to drive the kids to school the very next day. Ideas?

cheap ones from BNT. I run cheapies on both my road car and race car, have no issues with them at all. even when i did some track days in my forester the cheap discs held up well ie i still have them on the car now after 3 track days and 4 years driving

Cheapo BNT/Repco rotors.

Minimum of Ferodo TS2000 pads.

Motul 600 or similar brake fluid.

Job done.

;D

Just a question, are Repco and BNT discs the same ? Or same enough it doesn't matter which place yuo go to ?

Needs to be manufactured to oe spec or better. Repco and bnt are competitors so they have different brands but some the same if you know what I mean.

I was more meaning they stock all the common s*** like narva/ryco but then they have their own independent stock lines also. They dont have freedom to purchase what they want like me.

I got a set of brembo rotors from asl last time i think. Cheaper as opposed to dba/oz or nz brake co/nz. No idea on quality theyre still in my garage not on the car.

He means they are probably made in the same Chinese factory and put in different boxes :)

haha

I got a set of Subaru spec TRW rotors from Ripco.

Made in Europe - Italy or Spain

TRW are one of the biggies in the brake business, they make OEM parts for all they major European car makers.

Their brake pads aren't too bad either.

Just getting routes now, but they all seem to be different size disks, one say I need 270, another says 266, and another tells me the 294 size disks, so need to take wheel off and measure disk before going any further, sometimes I wonder how these guys in parts departments get jobs.

Sometimes we wonder how manufacturers made cars...

Are you buying front rotors, rear rotors or both ?

270 or 277 is a front size, as is 294.

266 is a rear size.

There are variants in parts on cars that genuine cant decipher its not foolproof. Agreed there are thick shits though as with any trade. I would never buy something from the salesmans spiel you cant trust his 'facts' I build my own judgements then go from there.

Just getting fronts at this stage rears later, for a 1997 bd5 legacy, have rang supercheap, Repco and BNT, all of them have it down as different sizes from each other?

I know that sometimes it isn't clear cut but surely to run that many different sizes is mind boggling and when questioned it just stumped them all.

Even Bayswater just gave me a part number, they couldn't even give me a size.

Thats weird. They should have them as options... Supercheap and repco well yea understandable the whangarei supercheap has chicks on the counter wtf. BNT is better but partmaster or autostop/automotive supplies for win.

260 or 277mm by the first catalogue i look at. Should be 277mm but fuck knows whats actually on it. Always safest to check/measure yourself so you get it right first time.

What exact information did you give them if it was only 1997 BD5 then you may have caused some of the issue your self :)

I see from your avatar it is a Turbo as its brakes would be different from the NA version, also is it a manual or Auto as they may differ as well.

JUST SAYING is all

told them 1997 bd5 twin turbo facelift model, and it is an auto, with no aftermarket modifcations done to it, will whip the wheel off and mesaure up tonight when i get home, its anyone guess as to what is behind the wheels.

I usually over kill on info as dont have much time on hand to mess around with wrong parts and sending the wife in to pick up the parts I ned to make sure that it is right coming from the shelf.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
