Possible overfueling

Twice since I have had my car - around a month when I have started it from cold on a slight incline it had blown a whole heap of white smoke. Only on the start, not continual. The second time it happened I managed to get a sniff, didn\'t smell like petrol at all but wasn\'t condensation either.

I noticed the other day, I jumped on to the highway and then noticed a car hauling up behind me, so gave it a bit of jandal and more smoke but only when it really got up it(Over 3/4k RPM). When I got home, I wiped my hand along the bumper above the exhaust and got soot back... Just so happened to drop Dad off to pick his car up from a garage, and I asked the guy there and he suggested Over Fueling, and to check for aftermarket ECU, so I did and I think it is a standard Subaru one. Unisia Jecs Corporation A18-000 DOS with a big 40 above everything and a few more numbers.

My question is, does this sound right? The only thing I haven\'t done yet is reset ECU - haven\'t had time.

Car is a 99 BH5

EDIT: Just had a thought, I didn\'t take the cover off (just looked at Marky\'s new one) ECU so don\'t know what is actually under there.

Here is a picture of mine from a v3 sti and appears standard

Have a look, I imagine if it was aftermarket or something you would see \'Mines\' or Zerosports\'. It may be obvious when you do look under the cover.

Connect the ecu plugs up and see if there any codes being flashed by the engine check light.

It\'ll be stock

White smoke isnt a great sign but wouldn\'t panic just yet

Black smoke is called "every second legacy getting a bootful" haha

Could be slightly dirty afm, could be (small) air leak, could be just a bit of extra fuel being dumped in if it\'s quite hot (mine used to pump it out on hot days) - afm clean / upper engine cleaner stuff / reset ecu please see forum if problems persist

Black sooty exhaust = untuned turbo car pumping the gas out and not normally a -bad- sign, I don\'t know if subarus dump fuel or just retard ignition if they get pingy? (Someone will)

White smoke - either water or oil (the key thing here is oil smoke smells oily according to CS), if it\'s just as it comes on boost it could be one or the other turbo seals just a bit sad and motor is ingesting that couple of mls oil pooling in intercooler or a pipe

Could be just water condensation buildup if its when secondary wakes up too - depending on how well the ECV seals there\'s at least the uppipe and most of the downpipe that wouldn\'t have any heat/flow through it until you wake it up I guess?

(TL;DR - I don\'t think there\'s much to panic about just yet)

Could be a bung o2 sensor and the car is running overly rich. I\'d first do what Marky suggested. As well just check oil levels and the coolant. Perhaps get a torch and just poke around the engine bay and see if you can\'t see any leaks. Go under and look around the rocker covers, those are prone to leak with age.

Then before forking out $$ for replacing parts, take it to a mechanic with a computer and get them to do a diagnostics to check all the readings from sensors are acceptable.

Marky you\'re a bloody helpful fella aren\'t ya! I still await your "How to" novel as previously mentioned, your write up\'s are so kiwi..

DNA - that sucks! I was realllyyyy hoping not to see someone say that may be my issue. Well no one said it yet anyway... :-X

Timmah - I nearly got around to that in the weekend, but turns out I don\'t work well in the blistering heat, but will def get it in to someone to have a look.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
