How to, PROPER RWD conversion, someone done it before?

Recommended Posts

Im about to head into the mines and have decided to start a project toy, I have been concidering waiting and buying an Sti BRZ however could proberly not justify spending that much just for a track hack.

I know people weld the centre diff to make the wrx (GC8) RWD, but i cannot find anywhere how to do it properly? my understanding is a 6 speed box is the strongest and a R180 diff compliments it well.

Before anyone hates on me about doing this to a rex, i want to do it properly and not ruin the car, people will ask why... because I want a RWD and I need a Subaru, and $60-70k for an Sti BRZ is far too much to drive it a few times a year.

Any ideas or help would be much appreciated, I would be hoping to put around 250-300rwkw too.

buy a Nissan?

totes cereal post btw [even turned caps off]

BLAZD may or may not know quite a few secrets/has a serious RWD setup

there was also something I vaguely remember where you can buy a piece to swap in for the bit you weld : like a solid locking ring, does the same etc.

anyway the welds are the last thing to break, never heard or anyone moaning about that part of the conversion

edit VV*BOOM*VV read below

kit to make it locked 4wd/Front Wheel drive or rear wheel drive depending on install. replaces the bit you weld.

It seems to be only for the 6MT not the 5MT, I stand by my how too, bang for your buck it is WIN, but hey if you can get a diff replacement for your trans then do that gotta be less weight

Get a locking spool if you\'re against welding it.

But if you\'re only driving it a few times a year you may as well just weld it?

If it\'s a track hack you\'ll be better going r200 or replacing r160\'s because fuck having to replace r180\'s (yes you will break r180\'s)

subaru\'s are shit for lock you\'re going to need some modifications to the knuckles/tie rods. You will also need a lot of caster angle as subaru\'s once again don\'t have much.

Can be just as good as any other rwd with money spent in the right places

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
