LED DRL and Indicator lights

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking lately about trying to install a pair of LED daytime lights which also come with and orange strip below, so you can run the white led\'s as per normal, then use the orange led\'s to integrate with the indicators.

I\'d try to wire it up so that when you turn say the left indicator on, the white led\'s turn off, and the orange ones for that side flash in conjunction with the indicators, when the indicators turn off, the white leds come back on.

Thoughts? This is a 30 second mock up I\'ve done on word haha. I know it might seem a lot of work, and trying to turn a now relatively old jap to look like a new euro, but I like the look anyway, but your opinions would be great! Thanks!

HAHgaaaayyyy.jpg?

in saying so just do it, but research the legalities of forward facing lights first

http://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof/general/lighting

being LED\'s they only feed current in one direction (Diode) so one may guess adding a +ve charge to the wrong end will kill the DRL side of things when the indicator is on

that may result in an alternating orange/white light, add a relay with timer/delay may solve this

You don\'t like the look?

Thanks for that, yeah I was thinking it\'d need a relay to manage turning off the white\'s completely, while the orange\'s flash, then swapping them over...

Legality wise, should be right, thanks for the link too

My 2c says it\'ll look stupid - the indicator will just look like a random black strip across the bumper when it isnt flashing, if its not part of the original headlight housing it\'ll always look kinda half-assed - the key with the LED strips is to have them hidden when theyre off

If anything you could look for some of those side mirrors with indicators on them (if you really wanted?)

I get the idea - but not sure how to get the execution of it quite right

Marky - In each unit, there is a yellow and white strip. if you can see in the picture I put, theres two rows of SMD LED\'s, one white and one yellow/orange, so both colours are in the single unit, does that take away what you were thinking about there always being a black strip?

evowrx - I\'m thinking wiring it in conjunction with the normal indicators, so they would both flash in unison

getting the DRL\'s to turn off when the indicators flash will be difficult, maybe a timer relay set to like a few miliseconds so it stays open between the flashes. u will have to run a switch over relay for the DRL switch off when headlights are on any way so u will be up for 3 relays ( 2 timer and 1 switch over )

From memory, the legacys have an output for the "Turn spotlights" find that output, use that to drive a NC relay contact which will turn off the DRL while indicators are working.

You would need to put some resistors in the indicator circuit so the Flasher unit will work at normal flashing speed.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
