2004 Outback..indicative costs to fix? advice?

Hi...#1 son is looking at 2 outbacks..both 2004 H6 models. First one has been pre purchase inspected as it was preferred option and following identified as issues. Appreciate any thoughts on a rough order of cumulative cost to fix(parts and labour)..im tending towards saying nah but if money was spent it means it would be good to go for while I guess.

Overdue Service..say $250?

Rear diff bushes splitting...$

Power steerring rack leaking...

RF CV boot split..

Play in LR wheel bearing...

LH inner rack end worn...

Belt squeak, drive belt looks okay. Chain driven car of course...

Windsreen chip outside CVA area.

In damage check Comment also made bonnet flipped..does that mean caught in wind and flipped up?

Are above basicaklly standard for 124kms car that appears not to have been looked after that well. Option #2 is fresh Jap import at 114km.

I just did a wheel bearing today. They are 400parts cost alone for one corner lot.

You\'d be looking at 1000 easily in parts probly same in labour if you couldn\'t do it yourself.

I\'ve also done a rack end once.. That was 250 for the part plus labour

damn thats expensive prices, why didnt you go genuine they are far cheaper? also wheel bearings are very common on the outbacks but not legacys for some strange reason

to me sounds like option one is a POS, these issues point back to it being ill maintained and thrashed, SO what will be next to go, clutch/gearbox/diff/brakes.

I would personally go with either the fresh import( if from dealer get it checked over then haggle) or go find another one somewhere

250 for a rack end? Rackends are like 25+ for item and takes about 30 minutes if your slow to change and then get an alignment.....easy

are you talking out the outer rack end.. or the inner? the inners are known to get play in them and was reasonably $ to replace.

perhaps that cost was all up incl labour, it was a while ago now

hi I replaced a rear wheel bearing about a year ago, cost me just under $300 for the whole unit at Wingers part dept and I installed it myself, took a coupla hours .its not too difficult to do if you Have the right tools! and it saves some money too

About $500 for a rebuilt steering rack

The RR wheel bearing cost $280 for just the part a couple of weeks ago.

I got that and an accessory belt replaced for $500 all up.

Thanx guys..we ditched that option and are going for an Auckland one from Japan which is tidier, slightly less kms cleared AA check and has been serviced and two new tires on front(more $$ tho but hey). First one hadnt been lolked after well recently it seems. A well spent $130 to get it checked first tho.
