I'm immagrating to NZ from SA need advice on buying Subaru

People have this idea that Subaru\'s aren\'t very reliable when they get on in years, which is bullshit really. Any car that\'s well looked after and serviced regularly should go for donkeys years.

I agree with that.. I know subarus are very reliable if well maintained.

Your price range I would go a legacy, nice car to drive lots of go compared to what you\'ve had. If you pick up one that\'s been used only for highway driving you\'ll have a good car

Theyre common as dog shit over here and about the best bang for buck turbo car. Commonest mod is a boost tap and 20psi so they have a bad rep. Mechanics call them grenades but most of them dont even know what an aftermarket ecu is.

Mechanics only call them that because they only ever see the bad ones, nobody ever goes to a mechanic and says "i want you to look at my car, it never misses a beat and there\'s nothing wrong with it" lol

But they do see whats more common to break.

Being brutally honest subys do have much more of a habit of breaking more critical parts than most - head gaskets & nuked big ends in relatively untouched cars are a pretty common read on here compared to similar makes (say equivalent turbo nissans or mitsis).

Still amazing bang for your buck though
