Longer 1/2" Drive Bar vs. 3/4" Drive Bar

So having broken my second 1/2" drive breaker bar ::), I\'d like to upgrade to prevent this happening again.

First one was a supercheap generic one which I bent open the end of, second one was a powerbuilt one that I sheared one side of the head away from the bar, sigh. The powerbuilt one lasted about 2 years longer than the supercheap one as you\'d expect but I\'d like to not have to replace the damned things in the first place.

What is theoretically my best bet of my two obvious options:

  • Another 1/2" breaker bar but longer (more leverage)
  • A 3/4" breaker bar of normal length (stronger)

Thanks :)

Just buy a quality one. Ive got a 1/2" SP 500mm ratchet that I run a 4" pipe on. Warrantied once but it took a LOT to break and when it did it was the latch inside that broke not the head. Lifetime warranty is always good too.

What are you breaking them on, hub nuts?

Yeah hub nuts, damned things.

After breaking three 1/2" I had to borrow a 3/4" and even then needed to extend it to break the hub. I think I\'ve still got it if you want to borrow.

Nah don\'t need one presently - turns out my bahco 1/2" drive 10" extension bar with a t-slide head and a bar over it works quite well - it\'s just not as easy to use.

But thanks for the offer :)

bad to use half inch on hub nuts the old man reckons but a complete Female anatomy part to buy a bigger socket set just for hub nuts that power built I thought would be under warranty

I was under the impression that the warranty wouldn\'t cover jumping up and down on it with a bar slid over it ;D. You can buy 3/4" sockets individually so that\'s not a problem given there\'s only 1 or 2 sizes that hub nuts are generally found in. I wouldn\'t bother on a ~$300 3/4" socket set which probably wouldn\'t even come with a bar

I\'ve been jumping on my Bacho 1/2" t-slide with a 3 foot pipe, for over 5 years and can\'t fault it. A little bent but it\'s never broken.

Just buy a decent bar and a 32mm impact socket. Put a rag on the bar before you slide the bar over it so it doesnt mark it. If its got a rubber grip take that off before the rag goes on.

Warranty every time. Other thing is to get one of those bars with the hammer heads on it so you have the benefit of impact as well.

I got me one of these sets.. hardly ever use it but it\'s good to have, just in case.

I mainly got it for the sockets, as I have also got a 3/4" Powerbuilt breaker bar as well

I used to provide warehousing and logistics for this guy. Got a bit of gear for our fleet and have never had a problem with it. Hard to go past the price too.

Bahco is great quality as well, we do a bit of logistics for the nz distributor.

Neat, cheers :).

Yeah I\'m very impressed with my Bahco set, especially considering it\'s priced for normal humans not workshops

  • 2 weeks later...

i gave up using 1/2 breaker bar they always seem to twist the ends off on axle bolts, i use my $40 1/2 crv ratchet from supercheap, calibre is what it is called now use to be superworks gold but always there in house product. has lifetime warranty im on about my 10th ratchet now, I use the leg off my engine crane and the ratchet, when the gearing gives up i simply return it for a new one no receipt. :P :P :P

both were replaced under warranty,

my most used ratchet is a koken 3/8" had to downsize from the 1/2" to stop breaking bolts :)

My 1/2" breaker bar is a 600mm Jonnesway that I grabbed from BNT for Flat Nats last year. Figured I'll just replace it if I break it since it cost not much money.

Used it to undo big 40-something mm truck lug bolts that a 3/4 impact wrench didn't shift by jumping on it with a pipe on the end and still haven't managed to break it.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
