Oil cooler replacement on rebuild ?

Hi all , can anyone offer some advice . I have just rebuild my motor and my engine rebuilder has said to clean and clean and clean my oil cooler as bearing particles may be stuck inside . How many people recommend this will be okay to reuse ? I hadn\'t even contemplated it to be honest but I\'ve heard heaps of people say to replace it - all well and said but no doubt subaru charge a bomb for one ?

Id Replace it, cheap insurance if the shards are still in there, youd kick yourself if there were shards and it killed your new engine

get a second hand one and clean and clean that one, throw up a wanted add someone will have one floating round from a engine swap or whatever

just find one from a crashed car etc . not a blown engine

Hmm not the answer I was hoping for ! Anyone have a idea on new price ? Surely someone must know with the amount of people rebuilding engines due to bob failure on here

Good excuse to go to an aftermarket unit?

they are about $400 new for the factory \'modine\' <- its real name.

aftermarket options you have to be careful with... factory format the operate as both a cooler and a thermostat in that they help bring the oil up to temp faster from cold as well as cooling once hot.

So if you go to JUST a remote oil cooler you must get some form of remote thermostat as well...
