Will these wheels need to be certed ?

Hey guys.

Iv had these wheels on for a few weeks and unsure if the need a cert.

Im not running spacers. The wheels specs are 18x9.5 +23

There is about 2mm tread outside of the front guards but it wont be there long as i am pulling the guards on the weekend. So lets just say there is no tread outside the guards for arguments sake.

The back has a little camber although i am not running any suspension mods other than super low king springs, so there is no tread outside the back guards

Chuur.

heres some pictures

Front- there wont be any tread outside the guards in a few days...

225/40R18 is not legal on a 18x9.5 - the smallest tyre you can have on a 18x9.5 is a 235/40

I think if the WoF guy wants to be an arse he'll fail you for how far beyond the guard the wheel goes.

The WoF rules do just say the tread but I'm going to go out on a limb and say they never thought anyone would be silly enough to run rims way wider than the tread on their tyres.

Looks staunch though.

I tend to trust the PDF on the LVVTA's website over something on Mag & Turbo's trademe ad.

What makes a Falken legal where a, say, Bridgestone isn't?

Just saying:

Falken germany have ok'd fitment of 225 40 18 to 9.5 rim..Saw something about it on oldschool a while back..

Both sound correct to me

some manufacturers do have proff they are safe at a certain limit & recognised by the NZ authorites, so yea you 'tread coverage' is your only hurdle i can see now, which it sounds like you got sorted too

good discussion & links are handy for reerence

sweet bro. i think its okay once the tread it sorted. I got rolled the other day and he thought they where illegal but the once he checked his hand book and saw that the tread was under the guard he let me go hahah. although you never know what a differant cop might say....

Im gonna try ring the cert dude but the trouble is the closest one to me is 2 hours away and i cant get ahold of him, doesn't seem to answers his phone :/

Apparently if the manufacturer has approved a fitment, and you can provide proof of that, then it'll pass a cert.

Weirdly though I don't think tyre size is really factored into your cert plate (unless it's on a big 4wd with much larger diameter tyres) so as long as it passes the requirements on the day you can put whatever tyre you like on it and the VIRM (WoF requirements) don't actually care.

they cant say anything about the wheel sticking out . look at the front axle of every single truck with one of the back wheels inside out on the front . there is studs and hub and all that like 8 inches outside the tire

Really ?

u do realise that a Truck is designed this way so there are no extra forces involved, where as the fitment shown above will cause extra force to be put onto the wheelbearing, studs and hubs

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
