Takata airbags recall

Recommended Posts

I still haven't got mine done, as the car has been out of action for most of this year. Only booking i could get at wingers was for mid Jan next year. How unsafe is it running around with them in there in this summer heat?

As long as you don’t crash into something and nobody crashes into you,you shouldn’t have any problems.

Well your car is probably at least 10 years old, so I don't think another couple of months is going to make any difference. Aren't there about 3 instances of them exploding out of about 5 million of these airbags out there?? You've probably got more chance of winning lotto.

And they obviously don't care about their authorised workshops doing sub standard work either, because they can't be bothered to reply to me.

So if you need to get your airbag replaced, stay clear or Winger Sublab in East Tamaki. That's who did mine and made a complete mess of the car.

Decided to make a dealer/service centre review thread so people can easily see reviews etc. Feel free to dump your story on there.

You should email/call this guy at Subaru NZ.  Wasn't much help with my sticky dashboard issue.  But you may get better luck.

Shouldn't that guy be where the feedback page on the Subaru NZ website goes to? In which case he's already got the message I sent to Subaru NZ last week..........

They could already be on holiday? Awkward time of year for this to happen to you.

Just to give you an idea of their response times, I've looked back in my emails when I reached out to Subaru NZ via their website... I submitted a contact form on Thursday 9th August and they didn't reply until Friday 17th.

It looks like the filthy pricks had just done a suspension job and then got straight onto my car - without washing their hands first. So the A pillar trim on both sides is covered in dirty greasy hand prints all up and down both sides...…..

I looked around here and a couple of other places, and couldn't find a product that was definitely proven to get stuff clean without leaving stains or discolouring it. So I took a punt and tried some Rug Doctor strain remover I had at home for the carpet. Worked a treat!! Spray it on both A pillar trims evenly, leave for a couple of minutes, then lightly scrub in circular pattern with a toothbrush, then rinse off. Had to do each trim piece twice to get all the greasy marks off, but now they are good as new. So this stuff works and doesn't discolour the trim.

It keeps getting worse. Started yesterday afternoon on the car's annual Christmas cleanup. Found 2 screws down between the tunnel and the passengers seat, so some parts somewhere in the dash haven't been screwed back in properly. Then when I was cleaning the back seat ( dust - I've never used it ) there are 2 cuts in the left door trim, and a dent mark in the right arm rest part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad:  None of these were there the last time I cleaned the back which was before the airbag got done. So they obviously use the back seat to store stuff when they are doing the airbag job, and just fire stuff in there. So f***ing pissed off with these c***s :mad::mad::mad:

Pulled the gear lever trim ring out, and sure enough they'd tried to put it in the wrong way which is why it wasn't sitting down correctly at the front. When I had that out, oh look, the tunnel side pieces go over the tunnel behind the gear lever and screw down to keep it all nice and tight. Except when they don't put the screws back in  That's probably half the reason why the AUX cable is hanging out the side of the tunnel trim too. While I was sorting that out and tucking the cable in properly, I found ANOTHER trim screw sitting on the tunnel under the black gearlever selector piece ( the round black bit with PRND etc on it ). So once I'd put it all back together and all the screws back in, I've still got 2 screws left over, so they are from somewhere other than the stereo / centre console area. Guess I'll find out where when I pull the whole dash one day to check the replacement airbag is actually bolted in with all its' bolts.

The absolute incompetence of the peanut that did my car is just unbelievable. It's also unbelievable they still have a job if this I how they give cars back to people. So if you have even the slightest regard for your car, NEVER GO TO WINGER SUBLAB EAST TAMAKI, because they sure as hell don't.

Finally got my letter for the Airbag, however theres a couple more recalls listed

Fuel pump harness needs to be inspected, and secondary air pump relay needs to be replaced.

Wish they would do the sticky/cracking dash while they're at it, however they haven't admitted to that one.

I also got my recall today for the 2010 Legacy, Knew the passenger airbag was a recall but apparently the electronic park brake is also going to be replaced or some part of it as that a recall as well????

Fingers crossed they don't break the dash or leave it in a s*** condition will be taking a lot of photos before it goes in,.

The electronic park brake is a separate recall but they'll do it at the same time.

A capacitor on the circuit board and/or the actuator stroke sensor magnetic ring, which is in the control unit of the electronic parking brake, may crack over time.

If either component cracks, the brake warning lamp lights up, but the parking brake may not engage. If the transmission is not in the recommended gear when the vehicle is parked and the emergency brake does not engage, the vehicle could roll away.

Sweet, just spoke to armstrongs in Christchurch and its all booked in for Monday.

Has anyone had their car done at Armstrongs Christchurch and if so were you happy with the job they did? They told me they for my 5th Gen legacy they will need to remove the whole dash to replace the passenger airbag so fingers crossed nothing get damaged as they do that!

The park break recall is a new one as well and they have only just got the parts for that in.

Take photos, lots of photos of your dash and pillar trim prior, just to be safe.

Bump for Nov 19

Cars are going to Fail WOFS from NEXT year if you've been affected & not sorted

yep I started this thread back in 2015

Motor Trade Association (MTA)

🚨 SAFETY ALERT: TAKATA ALPHA AIRBAGS 🚨

Airbags could cost your car a Warrant and if your WoF is due soon you don’t want this affecting your holiday plans!

If you’re driving one of the 12,000 vehicles, mainly used imports, still fitted with Takata Alpha Airbags, time is running out to get them replaced. From 1 January 2020, vehicles that have not had their Takata Alpha airbags replaced will automatically fail a WoF check.

Takata Alpha airbags contain a defect that can cause the inflator to fail in a crash and explode, sending fragments at vehicle occupants.

It’s easy to check if your car is affected. Just go to www.rightcar.govt.nz and enter your vehicle’s rego in the search field.

Help us to help others; please share this post with anyone you think may be affected. #safety

Mine was done when they replaced the original damaged dash, so don't have to worry about mine.

If you are getting it replaced by Crowesport in Christchurch I can vouch for the good workmanship in reinstalling the dash. Wouldn't even know it has been out, no creaks, rattles or unexplained gaps

Since I had my car butchered by Winger Sublab East Tamaki, I've finally fixed everything and put all the screws back where they should be and cleaned and refitted all the trims properly. Now the airbag light keeps coming on at random times, and takes a while to go out, sometimes up to 10 minutes, so I'm guessing they didn't plug it in properly? Anyone know where the plug is exactly, and how I can access it without pulling the whole dash out? Can I get to it if I pull the glovebox or the centre air vent / cubby out?

Forgot to update, RA-R dropped off early may at 3pm in the afternoon, both the airbag and in inlet pipe were done by 12 pm the next day, no rattles. I was pretty happy tbh, they still had no idea what the car was though

2 years on and I’m retracting my statement til further notice

Got a letter from Subaru saying they need to check the replacement to make sure it’s a good replacement and not a bad one

now I have to drag the RA-R out after having it stored away nicely. Not a huge deal I suppose but still annoying

Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
