Replacement Smart Key

Hey guys - I have only got one smart key for my push button start 2006 legacy... A spare OEM one costs $650

Any ideas for alternatives?

Nah, only choice atm is a genuine replacement im afraid

I'd be looking for one on yahoo.jp BUT you still have to go to a dealership to program it and that won't be cheap.

OK swt thanks will check that out.. Call me tithrifty but I can't handle spending 1/10th the price of the car for a spare key :-P

Was also thinking I'd only need the key and it programmed on the off chance that i lose my current one so maybe there's a way to collect my current programming code quickly then I just buy it if it gets lost....

yea pretty much any car you buy from 2004 + make sure you get a spare key with it or haggle for one, its not uncommon, even my 20 year old BMW key is still bout $450 to replace with the security features in it

You can program a new key yourself (pre push start/2007 at least) but you have to have a small metal tag with a code engraved on it that would originally come attached to a set of keys from factory. The code allows you to assign a new key manually (lengthy procedure, described in manuals). I was pretty lucky mine came with the tags still attached

Hit up this place, i have not gotten a quote from them personally but i have heard they are very reasonable on price, the guy i bought my car off recommended them.
