V9 New project

Recommended Posts

So starting a new project. V9 wrx with end goal of 450hp.

So far have 3" redline exhaust from turbo back and increased air flow in. Turbo smart dual port bov and walbro 255L fuel pump. I am booked in for install of link G4+ plug and play with all the extras in a couple of weeks which has been quoted at $3500. That sound about right/good price?

Any info is appreciated as I am only new to this.

It may take a while as doing it on a budget but want it done right so no half ass work or crap parts.

Will update as I manage more mods.

Thanks.

Also have had the auto light adjust light on dash for a while. Is this going to cause any issues? Easy fix? Pain in the ass?

Cheers.

I strongly suggest you do some research into "carberry" or "merpmod" ecu hacking. Yes, its tuners pushing their product because they cant be assed learning a new system, and the kickbacks from link are worth them pushing their product. It annoys the hell out of me tbh.

All factory ecu's v7 and newer can be reflashed, and they all have the capacity to run into some crazy performance. The 32bit ecus with fly by wire (electronic throttle) with 3 totally different fueling, timing and boost maps (with the right merpmod map loaded) and dont have the hassle of loosing the factory safeguards, cold start, idle control etc

There is only one professional tuner i'd trust in the north island atm, and that's dtech in tauranga.

To be fair i think links a great option. Its very user friendly if you tune yourself or not and easy to log.

I dont think all tuners are out to sell link its just a damn good local option that everybody knows so well. If you have a question you ring link. If you have a question on open source you have to trust mr x from forum y.

If i was a tuner and i had more work than i could handle it makes good sense to stick with link. It means day in day out youre handling the same software you know rather than nismo or eculabs or whatnot. I know id rather take a link car to a guy who specialises in link rather than 20 different ecus otherwise hes not as familiar which means more time = $.

So very capable stock ecu but noone who can tune it well in nz other than dtech and no idea how good they are but rapid seem to reflash stuff too.

Also looking into rails/injectors. Where do I even start??? What are decent brands that are reasonably easy to get hold og in nz? Top feed? Side feed? Conversion kits? Cc? Was looking at these ones.

Any thoughts?

Have a good long talk to your tuner and formulate an overall game plan..

You will save money in the long run if you do this..

I'm at about 450hp (flywheel) these days.

Budget maybe $20000, should get you there. If you're trying to do it cheaply, don't bother - just get an exhaust and a reflash and call it done.

EDIT: I just did a real quick back-of-a-napkin price-up and came to $12000 and I've probably forgotten a bunch of stuff and factored in basically 0 labour other than the tune.

That's also not doing anything about the 5-speed gearbox which will probably die if you give it some jandle at that power level.

No idea why you're bothering with the Link already, I'd just buy it and keep it on a shelf until the rest is done. You're spending probably $1000 on a tune that becomes worth exactly $0.00 when you install new injectors because you will completely ruin the fuel map.

Fuel injectors, get ID1000s

All of this is pretty much moot though because your 2.5 WRX motor will be at the ragged edge at 450hp and you want it done properly, so budget maybe $5k to do an EJ207/EJ257 swap OR budget $15k extra to do a proper forged build.

So you're looking at maybe $30k and you should get somewhere around 450-500hp, done properly.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
