Swapping drum brakes for discs

So my runabout BH legacy has drum breaks in the rear as it's the base model Brighton.  I've done some research and apparently it's a simple swap to put in the disc brake setup from another Legacy of the same generation.

My question is whether this will require LVV certification?  Given it would be an OEM part, is the kind of thing that would even be noticed?

Soooooo long and short of this is technically yes, you should get it certed.

Real world no, as long as you do it nicely 100% with OEM parts then it would be one helluva anorak WoF guy that pulled you up on it.

I have an aquaintance who may or may not have done exactly that with a Civic.......

How would they even know if it's 100% OEM?

Exactly.

Maybe if they were a massive Subaru nerd? These things happen, a friend of mine once got pinged with an un-certed B20Vtec in a Civic, turned out the cop was quite the Honda enthusiast...

All it takes is a WOF inspector with a base spec Brighton, scratching his head wondering why your car has rear discs and his hasn't :)

This is true, but without the Brighton badge, how he would know it's a Brighton and not a TS-R? Rego just says "Subaru Legacy".

haha, maybe I should just buy a nicer legacy, rather than transforming my budget legacy into a nicer legacy...

Nah, you know the history of the car. And, you can build it to your own spec. That's pretty much what I'm doing with my 1990 BF GX. Doing a rear brake swap is so simple, and practically undetectable. Having said that, I'm not sure there's really any significant benefit of a rear drum -> disk swap, unless you're worried about the looks.

This is true, given most of the stopping power comes from the front.  I would primarily be doing it for the learning experience, with the marginal stopping power gain and enhanced looks (drums are pretty rusty and ugly) being of secondary importance.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
