Boot/tailgate stuck closed

Help. I tried to open the boot/tailgate of the wagon when I got home and it seemed to be stuck or the handles not working. not sure if something got stuck in the mechanism or what. anyone know of a way to release it? I have to load it up tomorrow so need a temporary solution till I can get it looked at in the weekend

So to clarify, when you pull the handle does it click/engage like it normally does when unlocked and just can't open it, or it behaves like it is still locked?

I have just found a panel to access the locking mechanism. From what I can see it when locking and unlocking the mechanism I can see work. the solenoid or whatever it is works,can't see enough of the latch itself to figure out what's wrong

Probably a positive really. Atleast its still doing something, seems to be becoming more common for the wiring loom to fail where it goes from the body to the boot which means it does a whole load of nothing. Guess all you can do is try pull out more of the lining to get further in there.

What kinda car?  my bh did that to and I had to manually open it from the inside with a screw driver. just need done tlc and lubricant and it's been sweet since

Its a BL outback. Its still under dealer warranty so don't really want to be jamming stuff in their at this point. I did get my hand in and move some of the mechanism, but still wouldn't budge. Im thinking something has snapped or come off at the point where the latch meets the bottom catch.

Luckily I could get what I needed into the car through the back doors.

BL is sedan - BP is wagon  

 

Some locks have a little tab sticking out the side - if yours has one, flick that and try again (not sure what the outback ones are like - never looked at mine)

Mine had a little switch one the side too(mines white) that moves up and down with the lock and I can manually move it as well but still no joy. Will take in in and see what they say and report back.

I saw this video last night, but couldn't be a**sed watching it then. Will view tonight and see if it helps. Looks like I can't make it in to get fixed this weekend

So finally heard back from the dealer today.

Turns out the locking mechanism had completely seized up. Took the mechanic nearly 3 hours to get it open!

They had to order a new locking mechanism, so now is fixed, just waiting on a loose heat shield or something or other thats been rattling at low revs to be fixed then I can get the car back. 

Only downside is the Type RA will become the weekend car again.
