I love the idea of disconnecting locks so thus rendering screwdriver boiz useless.

Only amateurs/useless crims screwdriver Subaru doors, why dick about with the lock when you can just pull on the window and stick your arm in?

Currently looking at an STi, the first was was a wee bit modded and my long time insurance company (AMI after years of no claims) threw a fit and wouldn't touch it... Grrr.

Anyway during my search for an insurer immobilizers came up, how good are the factory ones on the NZ new models? I imagine the typical alarm ones are all installed in the same location and easy to bypass. Anyone recommend a good alarm installer?

The factory immobilizers are, generally speaking, bloody awesome. There's a cryptographic conversation between the key and the ECU, similar to your swipe card that gets you into work, and if that doesn't line up you're not going anywhere.

Aftermarket alarm companies, generally speaking, would have you believe otherwise, but unless there's a flaw in the implementation (see cars in Europe being nicked by enrolling another key/fob via the diagnostic port) the factory ones are very, very good.

Aftermarket ones can be installed just about anywhere the installer can be bothered, which means a lot of lazy dickheads just install them by the steering column, where, as you say, they are easily bypassed.

Installer-wise... depends heavily on your location :)

Cheap $20 each Car Wheel Clamp or  Steering Wheel Lock, hopefully should put most amateurs off their menu.

A $20 wheel clamp :/ I'd back myself to have that thing off in under a minute.

As for steering wheel locks.... if that $20 special is even hardened steel I would be surprised, but the shitbags will just cut your steering wheel, cos it's definitely not hardened steel.

STi Factory Immobiliser - I've read that only the NZ new STi's have immobilisers and the JDM's don't. But that seems odd as my 2003 Outback import has a chip based immobiliser.

Does anyone know from what year the NZ STi had a factory immobilizer fitted? And the same for JDM, I assume they must be fitted as standard by now.

They're not factory fitted. They're what's called port fitted. Literally fitted at the port before delivery to the dealer. It's just a retrofit kit, and nowhere near as good as the factory immobilisers in the Legacys.

Keen to know thoughts on how to prevent the old "tow and dismember" tactic of car theft where an alarm doesn't help.

I'm thinking of  getting a dash-cam like the following: Blackvue DR650S-2CH which has front and rear to catch people who want to tow you. There is a parking battery and motion sensor so when someone tried to tow you, it records video and you can view on an app. The dash-cam also has GPS, so you can see if the car is being towed and where it is going despite the battery being disabled :)

Yep, chances are the camera goes first. Either thrown or ironically taken to sell. xD But this means that you know your car is being stolen and you can at least call the police or get to your car if close by. Chances are you'll have the tow truck's licence plate recorded too, hopefully in the cloud app. Got to ask about that.

Sigh, theft prevention is just wishful thinking anyway with a low chance of success.

Someone tried to do this to my legacy last night, they just damaged the paint (deep scratches), door seals and the window.

Very annoying.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
