95 GF8 EJ20T fuel pump question

swamp

Recommended Posts

Hey guys so recently my newly-bought WRX refused to start and the garage I got it towed back to who installed my alarm - have diagnosed it as a fuel pump issue.

I'll need a new fuel pump put in. I just want to know if a quote of $550 is a fair price or am I getting ripped off?

At the time of the fault I would have had the car for less than a month and I would have done less than 1000kms in it lol. So I'm preparing for a motor vehicle disputes tribunal case.. as a former employee of mvdt I think it could get to that stage.

As above $550 is absurd, it's like a 1-hour job and the pump is maybe $200

Aftermarket "stock replacements" are expensive. Walbros on the other hand are cheap. Took me 30 minutes max last time both walbro and aem Ive used plugged straight in.

Yes, it is a very easy DIY in terms of tools and complexity; the less experienced or confident you are, simply the more time you need to allow yourself to do it; first time for even the most timid at home would be 2 hours I reckon. As above, you'd do it in minutes after a few times.

S***, OK I'm gonna spend my Sunday looking on the forum/net for a how-to. And then if it seems alright I will get it towed home and do it myself.

Any links which would be a good starting point please?

I've never done a fuel pump change ever lol.

And another question - do you think it could have been caused by my love of Gull Force 10 fuel?

Personally I like walbros but end of the day as long as its a reputable brand and from a reliable source so you can be sure it's not a knock off, you can't go wrong.

As for the gull it's not recommended in my v7 sti but unsure about the older ones. I did find my sti ran great on it at first and after a while it seemed to not run as nice. Went back to mobil and no probs since

What area are you in? There are a few mechanic/shops on here that could easily do a fuel pump and will also see you right in terms of pricing and quality of work. Assuming the pump is the culprit it's only 1-2 hours of labour to do the pump so shouldn't cost much. On top of all that they will also be able to diagnose any other faults with the vehicle/give a good idea of it's health.

Also pumps die randomly and usually instantly so don't be too hard on the car seller, they probably had no idea that was an issue nor is it something that is routinely checked on sale. It's also a simple and cheap repair/upgrade for your piece of mind. A walbro pump is only $115?, and you should be able to install yourself with no prior knowledge, assuming you can read and have some basic tools available.

Uprated fuel pumps are also one of the first mods recommended on ownership/modification side of things

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
