VTD into 05 Outback?

Recommended Posts

I found a thread where people were putting VTD diff in and changing the split from 90:10 to 45:55.

Seemed easy to do but are there issues that would come up? Apparently you can still run the same TCU.

If this was a relatively easy swap it would be something I would like to do as I'm not as happy with it off road as I hoped and this is supposed to helphelp people

In the article they say from 96-04, and being a Canadian site, I'd say that covers BG/BD to BE/BH, in that their model years are quite far off ours and/or Japan's. I'd say it'd be worth investigating if there were any changes to the 4EAT in your BP9 from the BH era for a start

What's your issue with it while off-road?

It definitely understeers alot when cornering and by the time the system kicks in its too late. I'm wanting a bit more predictability when driving.

It's fine for everyday driving but off road it's not so awesome. Will be driving a lot of shingle/riverstones/dirt roads over the summer so wanting something I have confidence in a bit more.

Hold on, understeer with a 05 outback while off road ?

I've got a 06 outback, it understeers a lot on tarmac but it's really not that bad on gravel roads in my opinion. If you enter the corner at the right speed and just brake slightly to transfer the weight in the front while turning, it's easy to put the car sideways. And as soon as you're sideways, you can just play with the throttle and keep it sideways for quite sometime.

While I really miss RWD on tarmac, my outback is a lot of fun on gravel roads B|

PS : I didn't read everything but I know that I have a LSD with the 3.0R ; a 05 outback can't be that different can it ?

Haha, if that is the problem, my tips for you would be :

1. Find the speed at which it starts to understeer

2. Take the next corner at the same speed while braking slightly (this way the front end gets more grip and you avoid understeer)

3. As soon as the car starts to go sideways, release the brake and play with the throttle. On an AWD with LSD, you should always keep some throttle while being sideways, if you don't the rear wheels will likely lock and you can spin

And of course start with a corner with a lot of space and visibility in case it doesn't go as planned.

Have fun !

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
