Or get something a bit different, with the convenience of a wagon and just as quick, like a Forester STi ;)

I am no expert so please correct me if im wrong!!

I thought that the EJ207 GRB STI's out of japan came with a semi closed deck block, or what they call the W or motorsport block with thickened cylinder walls. I've heard the power can really be pushed out on the blocks but you still have your weaker pistons and rods (in comparison to block strength) which are prone to failure but i believe these are semi-forged so you can still push some out of it.

Wouldnt this make it more reliable in some sense due to its durability? @TNHSTI Perhaps take a look at the GRB spec STI's?

I've had mine for the last 50,000kms and it hasnt failed yet, im getting close to 180k now, and its tuned to around 400hp

@nihell have a stroll down to @Subirex Automotive garage in auckland and you will see a beautiful a-line parked there which they have custom modified and tuned and it runs like a skinned cat...that one has exhaust, fuel pump, intake and intercooler sprayer... @Pappu1 tuned it and got decent power out of it...these guys are the best and most reliable people to speak to when coming to subis

Okay. I know the 2.5s had a bad reputation. All depends how its been looked after. So hard to tell.

Yeah true im still wary about the engine failures the pre 2010 models have.. i badly want one but cant afford a 2010 model...

Have found a 2009 sti with 160kms on the clock is it likely to blow up on me lol?

you are on the top end of the scale of a turbo vehicle with mileage in my opinion, but yeah if it has a good service history you would be alright.

A service history doesn't tell you anything at all about how it has been driven unfortunately. Those 160kms could be the equivalent of 80 or 320 depending on treatment. They also don't all come out of the factory equal. The question of whether or not it will blow up is best answered by lots drawn from a hat =P

Too many home and Internet tuners as well since they are popular so get the rom checked to see if "tuned" then maybe get a dyno run with wideband.

2L block is thick walled, looks about 12mm and braced well in the sti.

Gearboxes are about 4K secondhand, center diff alone costs that new.

they all get noisy gearbox bearings that are $1000 for the part and custom to subaru, not that they fail just get noisy.

just get a warranty if you are worried for the $1200 ish for 3 years it's worth it. Less than the tyres for the same period.

Hi all,

What changed between the 2007-2009 vs 2010+ models?  Are the 2010+ EJ207's more reliable than the earlier ones?  Be very keen to hear of any concrete details.  There's lots of info about the (mainly USDM) 2.5L with ringland issues, but much less about the 2.0L JDM EJ207.

I bought a 2011 spec C with less than 30k's on it (and paid accordingly), as I assumed they all had shortblock issues at around 100k.  Now wondering if I should also get a warranty, but perhaps that's overkill?

Facelift so usually just bumpers and trim.

suspension changed, dampers and spring rates, plus front lower rear bush is not S*** rubber.

Poor tuning is the most likely cause of issues with the 2L and I'd get the baffled sump just in case.

think Pbms change the oil passages a bit of full builds to offer increased protection to the bearings.

that or down pipe and or intake mods without a tune. Runs lean and over boosts without a check engine light coming on most of the time. I think it's 24psi you get the over boost waste gate control failure code.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
